CARE Vietnam is looking for an exceptional Country Director to lead its next chapter of growth, innovation, influence, and impact.

Since 1989, CARE Vietnam has partnered with Vietnamese and international organizations to deliver more than 300 projects, tackling the structural causes of poverty and inequality and advancing the rights and opportunities of women and girls.

Today, the development landscape is changing rapidly. CARE Vietnam needs a leader who can see what is coming, create what is needed, and bring people together to make it happen.

This is a role for a visionary strategist, entrepreneurial thinker, exceptional people leader, and influential network builder who can translate ambition into results.

As part of CARE's commitment to localization, this role is open exclusively to Vietnamese nationals. The successful candidate will be employed on a national contract based in Vietnam.

YOUR MANDATE

As Country Director, you will provide overall strategic and operational leadership for CARE Vietnam, ensuring the organization remains relevant, resilient, innovative, financially sustainable, and positioned for greater impact.

Set the Vision & Drive Transformation

Lead CARE Vietnam's multi-year strategy and turn it into action—anticipating shifts in the political, social, economic, and development landscape and identifying new opportunities for impact.

Champion innovation, digital transformation, entrepreneurial approaches, and new ways of working that keep CARE agile and competitive.

Build Influence & Unlock New Partnerships

• Be CARE Vietnam's principal ambassador and build trusted, high-level relationships with government, donors, civil society, communities, and the private sector.
• Go beyond traditional fundraising to identify and develop new funding and partnership models, including commercial partnerships, results-based financing, fee-for-service opportunities, and innovative investment approaches.
• Position CARE as a partner of choice and an influential voice on the issues that matter most.

Required Qualifications

We are looking for a senior development leader who combines strategic vision with commercial acumen, operational discipline with entrepreneurial thinking, and high emotional intelligence with the ability to make tough decisions.

You Will Bring

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline; a Master's degree is preferred.
• 6–8+ years of senior management experience in international development; 8+ years is preferred.
• A proven track record leading strategy, organizational transformation, and complex operations.
• Strong experience managing complex budgets, financial sustainability, donor compliance, and risk.
• Experience leading and developing diverse, multidisciplinary teams in cross-cultural environments.
• Demonstrated success in resource mobilization, partnership development, or business development.
• Strong program leadership experience, including program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
• Experience working in complex or emergency environments is an advantage.
• Exceptional relationship-building, communication, negotiation, coaching, and influencing skills.
• The resilience, adaptability, and emotional intelligence to lead through uncertainty and change.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters degree in related field
• 8+ years in a senior management position in development field
• Demonstrated experience in program design, implementation and evaluation
