Technical Product Owner Core Engineering Platforms

About the Job

As a Technical Product Owner in Core Engineering, you will own the strategy, roadmap, and backlog for engineering platforms that support software delivery, reliability, automation, and governance across NAB. Partnering with Platform Engineering, SRE, Architecture, and Security teams, you will ensure platform investments deliver measurable value through improved developer experience, operational efficiency, platform adoption, and engineering outcomes.

Key Accountabilities

Product Ownership & Strategy

• Define, communicate, and execute the product vision and roadmap for Core Engineering Platforms.
• Own and manage the product backlog, ensuring priorities align with strategic business and engineering objectives.
• Translate business, engineering, security, and operational requirements into epics, features, and user stories.
• Prioritize platform enhancements, technical debt remediation, reliability improvements, security uplift, and risk reduction initiatives.
• Make day-to-day product decisions that enable teams to deliver value quickly and effectively.
• Ensure development teams understand the intended value and outcomes behind each initiative.

Essential Skills & Experience

• 8+ years of experience in technology, software delivery, or engineering environments.
• 5+ years of Product Owner, Product Manager, Delivery Lead, or similar experience in Agile teams.
• Strong backlog management, prioritization, and roadmap planning experience.
• Proven ability to balance competing priorities and stakeholder expectations.
• Experience working closely with software engineering teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes.
• Experience driving platform, infrastructure, developer tooling, or engineering enablement initiatives.
• Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.

Key Accountabilities

• Own the product vision, roadmap, backlog, and prioritisation for Core Engineering platforms, ensuring alignment with business and engineering objectives.
• Engage with stakeholders across Engineering, Architecture, Security, and Platform teams to gather requirements, communicate priorities, and drive platform adoption.
• Partner with engineering teams to deliver platform capabilities that improve developer experience, reliability, automation, governance, and operational efficiency while tracking outcomes through agreed success metrics.

Preferred Experience

• Knowledge of Platform Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Developer Experience practices.
• Understanding of APIs, API Governance, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and Cloud technologies.
• Experience working with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Familiarity with container platforms and modern application delivery practices.
• Knowledge of engineering observability, reliability, security, and compliance practices.
• Experience with Agile delivery tools such as Rally, Jira, GitHub Projects, Azure DevOps, or similar.

Nice to Have

• Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), PSPO, SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager, or equivalent certification.
• Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Kubernetes, DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering certifications.
• Banking, financial services, or highly regulated industry experience.
