Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional, hands-on Technical Lead to own the overall technical

architecture and engineering execution of our flagship, high-security communication and

real-time messaging product.

In this pivotal role, you will serve as the core technical authority across our multi-platform

product ecosystem—spanning Backend Services, High-Performance Shared Core SDKs,

Native iOS (Swift), Web/Desktop Apps (React & Electron), Database Systems, E2EE

Security, and Cloud Infrastructure.

You will bridge product vision with deep technical

execution, driving architectural governance, mentoring multi-disciplinary engineering leads, and

ensuring our cross-platform architecture achieves peak performance, high concurrency, seamless

client synchronization, and ironclad security.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End System Architecture: Define, evolve, and maintain the cross-platform
  • technical architecture across Backend Services, Shared Core Logic, Native iOS, Web, and
  • Electron Desktop clients.
  • Shared Logic & Cross-Platform Governance: Architect and govern the integration of
  • shared core libraries across Native iOS (Swift) and Web/Desktop (React/TypeScript &
  • Electron) runtimes to minimize duplicated business logic and ensure strict state
  • consistency.
  • Technical Standards & Design Sign-off: Lead the drafting, review, and approval of
  • Technical Design Documents (TDDs) for core platform modules, real-time protocols,
  • local offline storage, and complex security features. Establish strict CI/CD and automated
  • testing pipelines.
  • Hands-on Delivery & Performance Optimization: Tackle complex system bottlenecks,
  • profile memory/CPU footprints on desktop (Electron) and mobile (iOS) environments,
  • optimize database persistence, and resolve critical production incidents.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Managers, UX
  • Designers, and Client/Backend Leads to evaluate feature feasibility, refine API contracts,
  • and deliver smooth, high-concurrency real-time messaging flows.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Mentor and empower Senior Engineers across
  • backend, iOS, Web/Desktop, and infrastructure. Build a culture of engineering
  • excellence, ownership, and continuous technical improvement.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • experience with at least 3+ years in a Technical Lead, Principal Architect, or Full-System
  • Engineering Lead role managing multi-platform technical teams.
  • Multi-Platform Product Exposure: Proven experience overseeing products deployed
  • across Native Mobile (iOS/Swift), Web (React/TypeScript), and Desktop (Electron)
  • environments.
  • Backend & Real-Time Architecture: Solid background in designing scalable backend
  • services (Go, Python, C/C++, Node.js, or Java) and real-time protocols (WebSockets,
  • Async Data Sync, Event-Driven platforms).
  • Architecture Governance: Strong history of drafting, reviewing, and approving
  • Technical Design Documents (TDDs), defining clean API contracts, and establishing
  • CI/CD automation pipelines.
  • Ownership & Problem Solving: Demonstrated track record of unblocking engineers,
  • handling production incidents, and balancing business trade-offs with technical debt.

2. SHOULD HA VE (Strongly Preferred)

  • Systems Programming & FFI Awareness: Hands-on experience or deep understanding
  • of low-level/systems languages (Rust, C/C++) and cross-platform compilation (FFI,
  • WebAssembly, or C-bindings).
  • Desktop Performance (Electron): Experience profiling and optimizing Electron
  • applications (IPC communication overhead, renderer thread optimization, main process
  • memory management).
  • Security & Encryption Standards: Solid understanding of modern cryptography, local
  • data encryption, End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) protocols (e.g., Signal Protocol,
  • Olm/Megolm), and OWASP security standards.
  • Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps: Working knowledge of AWS/GCP, Docker,
  • Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and monitoring systems (Prometheus,
  • Grafana, ELK).

3. GREAT TO HA VE (Bonus Points)

  • Matrix / Element X Stack Experience: Practical experience or familiarity with the
  • Matrix open protocol, Matrix Rust SDK, Synapse/Dendrite homeservers, or Sliding
