Job Description

DESIGN COORDINATOR – SHIPBUILDING - FRENCH SPEAKING - EX-PAT PACKAGE

Navis Consulting are looking for an experienced Design Coordinator to join a Design team and support the delivery of designated shipbuilding projects in Vietnam.

Main Responsibilities

As Design Coordinator, you will:

  • Coordinate questions received from production shipyards and distribute them to the appropriate Design Team Leader.
  • Manage drawing lists and ensure drawings are produced and delivered to production yards on time.
  • Liaise with Team Leaders to identify supplier documentation required by shipyards.
  • Work with the Design Assistant to ensure drawings and documentation are correctly posted in Therefore for shipyard use.
  • Ensure RFM are completed and resolve discrepancies between issued RFM and shipyard requirements.
  • Coordinate between different trades during the design process, ensuring consistency of design modifications across all aspects of the project.
  • Liaise with the Project Manager and PING regarding design modifications.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and ensure subcontracted documentation is completed on time for production.
  • Provide responses and resolutions to Bureau Veritas (BV) comments.
  • Escalate priorities, conflicts and technical issues to the Design Director when required.

Key Activities

Control

  • Check design-office work for assigned projects.
  • Ensure ship specifications and applicable regulations are followed.
  • Control quality and compliance with ISO procedures.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure drawings are released according to agreed schedules.
  • Follow up on 3D modelling.

Coordination

You will ensure effective communication between Design Groups and other stakeholders, including:

  • Project & Design / PING
  • Detailed design subcontractors
  • Industrialization / PVN Production and other shipyards
  • Classification Societies and Flag Authorities, including the French Administration

You will also report accurately to the Design Manager on project status.

Execution

  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with applicable standards and specifications.
  • Take personal responsibility for specific documentation, including statutory drawings and technical/calculation notes requested by classification societies or flag authorities.

Competencies & Experience

We are looking for someone with:

  • Knowledge of shipbuilding regulations, particularly French codes.
  • A strong understanding of the complete ship design process: Project / Basic / Design / Industrialization / Preparation.
  • Knowledge of mechanics and processes.
  • Ability to critically assess design principles and propose alternative solutions.
  • Understanding and respect for ISO procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office.
  • Knowledge of Cadmatic is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education & Experience

  • Engineering degree with a minimum of 5 years experience, OR Technician with more than 10 years experience, including at least 5 years within a Design Department.

Location: Nha Be, Vietnam

Working tools: Provided by the company

Working hours: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Lunch: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
