Senior Software Engineer (Java, Python, TypeScript)

About The Role

• Build cloud-native software using Java, Python, and TypeScript — the scalable, high-performance services and web applications that power Katalon's platform.
• You will work across backend services and modern frontends, partner with Product and other engineering teams to turn requirements into working software, and own features end to end — from design through production.
• You will also get to use AI-powered engineering tools as a normal part of how you build.
  
  

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and modern web applications using Java,
• Python, and TypeScript technologies
• Work with Product Managers and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Contribute to technical design discussions and architecture reviews, and help document the decisions that come out of them
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following software engineering best practices
• Review your teammates code and help raise code quality, maintainability, and system reliability
• Help build highly available, secure, and observable distributed systems
• Improve application performance, scalability, and operational excellence
• Contribute to shared engineering libraries, internal frameworks, and developer tooling
• Investigate and resolve production issues while continuously improving system stability
• Use AI coding agents as a normal engineering tool: give them the right context, and review their output as carefully as your own
  
  

Job Requirements

• Solid hands-on experience with Java (typically 4+ years) building backend systems with frameworks like Quarkus, Spring Boot, or Micronaut. Kotlin experience is a plus — parts of our backend are Kotlin on the JVM, and we expect a strong Java engineer to pick it up on the job
• Experience building and operating distributed systems, with a working understanding of performance, reliability, and scalability trade-offs
• Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and relational data modelling — Kafka or an equivalent streaming platform, PostgreSQL, caching, and search
• Working proficiency in Python or TypeScript, and willingness to work in both. Our frontends are React/TypeScript
• Experience deploying and running services with Docker and Kubernetes
• Good understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, and version control with tools like GitHub Actions
• Strong software engineering fundamentals including SOLID principles and modular design
• Comfortable working across service boundaries and with other teams, and able to own a feature end to end
• Practical experience with AI coding tools — you already use agentic tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot) for real work and have a sense of where they help and where they do not
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Conversational English skills
  
  

Preferred Experience

• Working knowledge of Go alongside the JVM — some of our proxy, CLI, and containerized runtime components are written in Go
• Test automation or developer-tooling experience — browser automation and the protocols behind it (Playwright, Selenium/WebDriver, CDP, WebSocket), or building and operating containerized execution environments at scale
• Integrating LLM APIs or AI capabilities into software products — retrieval, tool calling, evaluation, cost and latency control
• Identity and authorization at enterprise scale: OIDC/Keycloak, policy engines, multi-tenant RBAC
• Experience building SaaS products for enterprise customers
• Contributions to open-source projects or technical communities
• Experience mentoring or onboarding other engineers
