Job Description

The Senior Merchandiser owns end-to-end merchandise planning and business performance for the assigned brand(s) within the Group Brand, translating commercial objectives into buying strategy, inventory strategy, and pricing/profitability plans that maximize sales, gross margin, and stock productivity.

Operating as the senior functional lead for Planning & Merchandise, the role independently owns the full merchandise planning cycle - from OTB and assortment planning through to pricing, business review, and action planning - while providing day-to-day direction to the Merchandise Executive and Retail Coordinator. The role represents the merchandise voice in cross-functional decisions and is accountable for the quality, consistency, and timeliness of the team's outputs that shape brand performance.

*** SCOPE OF WORK

Merchandise Strategy & Planning

  • Own the merchandise strategy, buying strategy, and OTB & budget plan for the assigned brand(s), aligning with the brand's commercial goals and P&L targets.
  • Lead merchandise forecast, launch calendar, and assortment planning, ensuring product-market fit across the store network.
  • Define inventory strategy – inventory target, Month of Stock (MOS), allocation strategy, rebalancing strategy, replenishment strategy, and stock capacity plan.

Pricing, Margin & Profitability

  • Set pricing strategy and price architecture in line with brand positioning and market competitiveness.
  • Own markdown strategy and profitability plan; safeguard gross margin targets while managing aged and slow-moving stock.

Business Performance & Commercial Recommendation

  • Lead merchandise review, KPI tracking, and business review, converting performance data into commercial recommendations for senior management and brand headquarters.
  • Develop and drive action plans that address risks and capture opportunities identified through sales, stock, and sell-through analysis.
  • Partner with the Retail Manager and Senior /Retail Executive to achieve brand P&L targets through timely, data-driven merchandise decisions and clearly prioritized actions.

Team Leadership & Quality Ownership

  • Lead and provide day-to-day functional direction to the Merchandise Executive and Retail Coordinator, ensuring clear ownership, priorities, timelines, and expected outputs.
  • Plan and allocate team workload across buying, inventory performance, reporting, and merchandise operations according to business priorities and the commercial calendar.
  • Review, challenge, and approve merchandise analysis, reports, forecasts, and action plans before submission to the Retail Manager or senior management.
  • Coach and develop the team's capabilities in merchandise planning, business analysis, product knowledge, and commercial judgment through regular feedback and on-the-job guidance.
  • Oversee the accuracy and timely execution of merchandise operations, including purchase orders, shipment and delivery follow-up, master data, and packaging coordination.
  • Proactively identify risks, gaps, and opportunities across merchandise strategy and execution, and ensure agreed actions are followed through to completion.
  • Build and maintain merchandise capability and product knowledge across the store network through cross functional collaboration.

Cross-Functional & Brand Partnership

  • Act as the key bridge between merchandise/product performance data and brand management, ensuring inventory and pricing plans align with brand positioning.
  • Partner with Retail, VM, Marketing/Marcom, Finance, and Supply Chain to align commercial calendar, campaign, and stock flow execution.
  • Engage directly with global/regional brand headquarters on buying plans, OTB, and business review when required.

*** REQUIREMENTS:

1. Skills

  • Strategic Mindset: Demonstrated ability to set merchandise strategy and OTB/inventory direction independently, not only execute against it; comfortable defending recommendations to Brand Management, Retail Brand Managers, and brand headquarters.
  • Ownership & Judgment: Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, take accountability for both individual and team outputs, review the quality of analysis, and constructively challenge assumptions before recommendations are escalated.
  • Analytical & Technical Skills: Advanced Excel (formulas, data modeling) and data visualization; strong command of OTB, MOS, sell through, and margin analysis
  • Commercial Acumen: Ability to connect merchandise decisions to P&L outcomes and articulate tradeoffs to non-merchandise stakeholders
  • Leadership & Soft Skills: Strong communication, coaching, stakeholder-management, and negotiation skills; able to set clear priorities, provide constructive feedback, align cross-functional teams, and present data-driven recommendations at senior level.
  • Attributes: High resilience with the ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines, particularly through peak commercial periods
  • Language: Excellent command of spoken and written English.

2. Knowledge & Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree or above, preferably in Business, Finance, Merchandising, or Data Analytics.
  • Minimum 5-6 years of planning/merchandising experience in retail, including at least 1- 2 years at senior level with responsibility for guiding junior team members, coordinating workload, and reviewing team outputs.
  • Direct experience in Luxury or Premium fashion retail is required.
