Job Description

The Position

We are seeking a Senior Atlassian Administrator to serve as the technical authority for our entire Atlassian Cloud environment. This person will both design the platform architecture and perform hands-on configuration and administration across Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Jira Assets and Confluence.

The platform supports two very different audiences. Software engineering depends on it for the full development lifecycle, and IT depends on it for service management. The successful candidate will design the platform around how those teams actually work, then build, govern and document it so the result is standardized, scalable, secure and increasingly automated.

This position is ideal for someone who understands Atlassian Cloud deeply, understands software engineering and IT service management as processes rather than as ticket types, and is comfortable operating as the organization's primary Atlassian specialist.

What You Will be Doing

  • Platform Architecture and Governance: Own the architecture, configuration standards, security, and technical direction of the Atlassian Cloud estate. Define how products are structured, keep that structure consistent as the company grows, and retire configuration debt before it accumulates.
  • Jira Software and the Development Lifecycle: Design Jira structures and workflows that support software engineering end to end: requirements, roadmap, epics, stories, development, testing, defect management, release, production and hotfix. Partner with Engineering, Product, QA and DevOps to translate their processes into a Jira architecture they can actually work in.
  • Jira Service Management: Own service projects, request types, portals, queues, SLAs, approvals and ITSM workflows, so that service delivery is standardized and measurable.
  • Jira Assets and CMDB: Design and maintain the Assets schema: object types, attributes, relationships, imports and lifecycle management. Integrate Assets into JSM workflows and automation so asset data drives real processes rather than sitting unused.
  • Confluence and Knowledge Architecture: Own space architecture, permissions, templates and knowledge management, including the JSM knowledge base and development documentation.
  • Cloud Administration and Identity: Administer the organization level: users, groups, product access, administrative roles, managed accounts, authentication, organization policies and audit logs. Apply consistent identity and access governance across all products.
  • Automation and Integration: Design automation across the platform and build integrations with GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, Microsoft 365, Teams, Entra ID, security tooling and other enterprise systems, using REST APIs, webhooks and JSON.
  • Marketplace Applications and Licensing: Evaluate marketplace applications, eliminate overlapping tooling, control cost and manage renewals.
  • AI and Rovo: Identify where Atlassian Rovo and AI agents genuinely help, validate them before they reach production, and measure the result.
  • Standards, Documentation and Enablement: Document the platform so it can be supported by more than one person, set the standards others follow, and raise Atlassian capability across IT and engineering teams.

What We Need from You

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Atlassian Experience: Five years or more of Atlassian administration, including three years or more with Atlassian Cloud and three years or more with Jira Service Management, plus significant experience supporting Jira Software for a software engineering organization. Experience limited to creating tickets or administering individual Jira projects will not meet the bar for this role.
  • Software Development Lifecycle: A working understanding of software engineering process, not only Jira configuration. Agile, Scrum and Kanban, sprint planning, estimation and capacity, CI/CD, release management, technical debt, dependencies and engineering metrics, and how GitHub commits, branches, pull requests, builds and deployments relate back to Jira work. You do not need to be a software developer, but you must be technically fluent enough to sit with Engineering, Product, QA and DevOps and translate what they do into platform design.
  • Jira Service Management Expertise: Deep hands-on experience with service projects, request types, portals, queues, SLAs, approvals and ITSM workflow design.
  • Assets and CMDB: Practical experience designing Assets schemas, object relationships, imports and lifecycle management, and integrating Assets into JSM workflows and automation.
  • Confluence Expertise: Hands-on administration of Confluence Cloud, including space architecture, permissions, groups, templates, knowledge management and Jira integration.
  • Cloud Administration and Identity: Experience administering Atlassian Cloud at the organization level, and with enterprise identity concepts including SSO, SAML, user provisioning, directory synchronization, role-based access and user lifecycle management. Experience integrating Atlassian Cloud with Microsoft Entra ID or Okta is strongly preferred.
  • Automation and Integration: Advanced experience designing Atlassian automation, with practical work in REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, authentication and API troubleshooting. Scripting in PowerShell, Python, Groovy, JavaScript or another applicable language.
  • Communication and Independent Ownership: Strong written and spoken English, and the ability to communicate with software engineers, IT engineers, product and project managers, business stakeholders and executive leadership. You must be comfortable operating as the organization's primary Atlassian specialist: investigating problems independently, evaluating alternatives, recommending solutions, setting standards and delivering against an agreed roadmap.

It Would be Nice if You Had

  • Atlassian Certified Jira Administrator, Jira Service Management, or Atlassian Cloud certifications
  • Atlassian Guard, Atlassian Analytics or Rovo experience
  • Experience developing or deploying AI agents
  • Experience designing enterprise CMDB solutions
  • Experience consolidating or migrating Jira projects or instances into Atlassian Cloud
  • Experience with GitHub and Jira development integrations, or integrating Jira with CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with software release management processes
  • Experience with marketplace applications such as Tempo, ScriptRunner or Jira Align
  • ITIL or other IT Service Management experience
  • Experience supporting audit or compliance requirements
