Role Description The Middle School Counselor is a full-time, on-site role based in Hanoi, supporting students in grades 6–8. The counselor provides individual and group counseling to address academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs, and helps students navigate transitions and challenges. This role collaborates closely with teachers, administrators, and families to design and implement student support plans, contribute to a safe and inclusive school climate, and participate in student interventions and referrals when needed. The counselor develops and delivers life skills lessons and may coordinate peer support initiatives. Regular responsibilities include maintaining confidential records, contributing to school-wide policies related to student wellbeing, and participating in meetings, professional development, and community events.
Qualifications
- Relevant counseling qualifications, such as a bachelor's or master's degree in school counseling, psychology, education, or a related field, and appropriate counseling or teaching certification where applicable.
- Demonstrated expertise in middle school counseling, including experience with academic advising, social-emotional support, and age-appropriate guidance programs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues in a multicultural environment.
- Understanding of child and adolescent development, mental health concerns, and evidence-based counseling practices in school settings.
- Ability to work collaboratively on student support teams, manage confidential information responsibly, and contribute to a positive, student-centered school culture.
- High level of cultural competency and sensitivity, with prior experience in international or cross-cultural schools considered an advantage.
- Strong organizational skills, including the capacity to balance counseling caseloads, guidance programming, and documentation effectively.
