Job Description
We are hiring an Intermediate Developer to independently deliver clearly defined development tasks within the Platform Core & Integrations team, while keeping quality discipline high. This vertical owns the shared core services, internal and external APIs, third-party integrations, middleware, and cross-system contracts that the rest of the platform depends on.
The Intermediate Developer executes assigned work end to end — implementation, validation, and test coverage — within an agreed scope. This is a fully hands-on engineering role. The role does not own shared foundational components; that work is led by Senior Engineers and the Team Lead.
Key Responsibilities- Defined task execution — deliver clearly defined backend tasks (features, fixes, API endpoints, integration changes) independently within the assigned scope and sprint commitment.
- Game development support — review Game Design Documents (GDDs) to identify and define the APIs each game needs from system components, and support game teams with Platform Core APIs, data aggregation, and data ingestion.
- Work quality compliance — ensure work follows team engineering standards, coding conventions, and API contracts, and is correct before it is submitted for code review.
- Validation & test coverage — write unit and integration tests and validate behaviour so the work is proven to work as expected before handover to QA.
- Scoped refactoring and performance — improve code, configuration, and performance within the boundaries of the assigned task, without touching shared foundational structures.
- Early technical risk reporting — inform the Team Lead promptly about instability, unclear logic, blockers, or estimates that will not hold.
- API and contract discipline — follow versioning and backward-compatibility rules on every change; no undocumented breaking changes.
- Code review participation — respond to review feedback quickly and review peers pull requests within the agreed workflow.
- Operational support — help diagnose and fix defects and incidents in team-owned services when assigned, under Team Lead coordination.
- Responsible AI-assisted development — use approved AI coding tools within the team's guard rails; AI-assisted output goes through the same review and QA gates.
- Ticket and documentation hygiene — keep Jira tickets, PR descriptions, and technical notes accurate and current.
- 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years of production Node.js with TypeScript / JavaScript.
- Track record of delivering well-scoped backend tasks independently, from ticket to merged, tested PR.
- Experience working in a microservice, multi-repo environment with a PR-based Git workflow.
- Hands-on use of AI coding tools in day-to-day development, with awareness of review and QA guard rails.
The team runs a polyglot, microservice-heavy estate (50+ services), most of it in Node.js.
- Node.js with JavaScript and TypeScript — the dominant stack (50 of the team's services); solid production experience required.
- Backend and REST API development — building and changing endpoints against defined contracts; understanding of API versioning and backward compatibility.
- Testing — unit and integration testing with a mainstream framework (e.g. Jest, Mocha); writing testable code.
- Data stores — working knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL databases and caching (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis).
- Messaging basics — exposure to message middleware or real-time services (e.g. Kafka, RabbitMQ, WebSockets).
- Git and code review — branching, clean commits, meaningful PR descriptions, constructive peer review.
- Debugging and observability — reading logs and metrics to diagnose defects in running services.
- Go — a growing share of newer platform services (gateways, identity, operator, reporting) are written in Go.
- Java (Spring Boot / Netty) — used in socket, real-time, and game-history services.
- Docker and CI/CD pipelines; basic cloud (AWS) familiarity.
- Experience with third-party or vendor API integrations.
- Gaming background is a strong advantage. Experience in regulated or high-availability environments is also valued.
- Good written and spoken English — all company communication is in English and the team includes distributed engineers.
- Ownership of own work — finishes what is started and stands behind its quality.
- Speaks up early — raises blockers, unclear requirements, and risks instead of waiting.
- Knows the scope boundary — checks with the Team Lead or a Senior before touching shared components or expanding scope.
- Open to feedback — treats code review as learning and applies feedback consistently.
- Team player — collaborates well with QA, Seniors, and engineers from other verticals.
