In this role, you will review construction drawings and prepare lumber takeoffs—detailed lists of the types, sizes, and quantities of materials needed to build a project. Your work will help our customers quote and supply materials for U.S. residential construction.
This opportunity is well suited to candidates with a background in civil engineering, construction estimating, or quantity surveying who enjoy working with drawings and developing accurate material quantities. Experience with U.S. construction, particularly wood-frame homes, is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities- Read and interpret architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and project revisions.
- Prepare accurate lumber and related material takeoffs for U.S. residential projects.
- Quantify materials for floor, wall, and roof framing, including dimensional lumber, engineered wood products, sheathing, and associated components.
- Organize material lists by building area, floor, or construction phase according to customer requirements.
- Identify missing information, conflicting details, and items requiring clarification.
- Document assumptions, exclusions, and questions clearly.
- Update takeoffs when drawings or project requirements change.
- Review completed work for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Communicate with team members and U.S. customers to meet project requirements and deadlines.
- A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience in construction estimating, quantity takeoffs, or quantity surveying.
- Ability to read architectural and structural drawings and extract material quantities.
- Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with digital drawing or estimating software.
- Working proficiency in English, particularly reading construction documents and writing clear project questions.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to learn U.S. wood-frame construction methods, material terminology, and measurement conventions.
- Experience supporting U.S. construction projects or working with U.S. customers.
- Knowledge of residential wood framing, including floor systems, wall framing, roof framing, and sheathing.
- Experience using PlanSwift, Bluebeam Revu, or Prebuilt.
- Familiarity with U.S. construction drawings and imperial measurements, including feet and inches.
- Experience preparing lumber takeoffs or material lists for building material suppliers, framing contractors, homebuilders, or estimating service providers.
Prior experience working for a lumberyard is not required. Candidates with strong construction takeoff skills and relevant software experience are encouraged to apply.
