Our global client is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead the launch and ongoing operations of a new Engineering Testing Site in the Hanoi, Vietnam area. This individual will be responsible for building and overseeing the local team, facility operations, and cross-functional collaboration with global teams.
The General Manager will serve as the key liaison with U.S.-based leadership, ensuring seamless integration of processes, strong communication, and alignment with global strategy. This role requires a strategic leader with strong operational oversight, a hands-on approach to site setup and scale-up, and the ability to foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the establishment of the facility, including construction, setup, and operational readiness, ensuring compliance with all local laws and safety standards.
- Develop and execute the sites growth plan in alignment with global business objectives.
- Build and manage a high-performing team; oversee recruiting, training, and performance development.
- Support technical teams and collaborate with functions such as Sourcing, Supplier Quality, and Product Engineering.
- Implement standardized lab testing methods and ensure effective collaboration with U.S. teams and external labs.
- Identify and mitigate risks, including supply chain and labor challenges, by establishing robust crisis management plans.
- Ensure operational efficiency through lean practices and the use of digital tools and analytics.
- Represent the Vietnam facility to internal stakeholders, customers, and suppliers, highlighting its capabilities and strategic value.
- Maintain necessary documentation, certifications, and compliance standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering (e.g., Quality, Mechanical, Electrical) required. MBA preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Vietnamese and English (verbal and written) required. Mandarin proficiency preferred.
- 10+ years experience launching new products to market.
- Prior experience leading all responsibilities of a multinational US company with operations in Vietnam.
- 10+ years B2B industry experience, preferably with engineered and/or capital products.
- Proven experience managing multi-faceted teams and facilities.
- Prior experience with Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibilities preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of the product lifecycle, from concept to commercialization.
- Knowledge of corporate finance and performance metrics.
- Background in mechanical and electrical testing of components and products.
- 5+ years experience managing cross-functional teams with multiple direct reports.
- Demonstrated organizational, leadership, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Results-oriented mindset with a sense of urgency to achieve goals.
- Proficient in using analytics to drive decisions and meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Travel up to 50% (approximately two weeks per month).
- Must be available to travel internationally
