Role Summary:
We are seeking a Finance Manager / Senior Management Accountant with strong hands-on experience in manufacturing and project-based accounting to join a growing, project-based manufacturing and engineering business supporting an Australian Finance Manager. This is not a narrow shared-services or pure FP&A role — it sits at the intersection of technical accounting and transactional ownership, requiring someone who is comfortable moving between month-end close, WIP and project costing, reconciliations, and process improvement across multiple non-integrated systems. The ideal candidate is a strong self-starter with genuine end-to-end ownership experience, able to trace transactions from operational activity through to the financial statements with minimal hand-holding.
Working Location: Home-based Setup (Vietnam based)
Work Schedule: 9AM - 6PM (AEST)
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and support the month-end close process, including P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow reporting
- Prepare and review general ledger entries, accruals, prepayments, provisions and other key journals
- Complete and review balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis and management reporting
- Support WIP accounting and milestone / percentage-of-completion revenue recognition for complex, multi-stage engineering and manufacturing projects
- Maintain accurate project and job costing, including labour, materials, subcontractors and overhead allocations
- Support standard costing, inventory movements, stock reconciliations and margin analysis
- Monitor project profitability and analyse variances throughout the project lifecycle
- Work across multiple non-integrated operational, production and finance systems to trace transactions end-to-end and reconcile differences
- Monitor cash flow and working capital, oversee AP/AR processes, and manage customer milestone billing and progress claims
- Maintain the Fixed Asset Register, depreciation schedules and related reconciliations
- Support year-end and periodic audit processes, and assist with Australian compliance support (BAS, GST, FBT) in coordination with the Australia-based finance lead
- Identify data-quality issues, process gaps and control weaknesses, and implement practical ERP and process enhancements
- Collaborate closely with project managers, procurement, engineering and operations teams to ensure financial information reflects operational reality
Must-Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- Approximately 8–12 years of finance/accounting experience, including solid experience as a Finance Manager, Senior Financial Accountant, Senior Management Accountant or equivalent
- Prior experience working with an Australian business (Australian employer, client, or subsidiary) is mandatory for this role
- Strong hands-on experience in manufacturing, engineering and/or project-based environments
- Demonstrated experience with cost accounting, inventory, WIP, job/project costing and project profitability
- Experience with milestone or percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and progress billing
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a lean finance team without heavy process documentation
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of finance processes, rather than experience limited to a narrow shared-services function
- Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, lookups, pivot tables and multi-source data reconciliation
- High self-learning capability with strong initiative and problem-solving orientation; comfortable operating with minimal hand-holding
- Clear and confident written and spoken English; comfortable working directly with an Australian-based manager and team
Nice-to-Have:
- Professional qualification such as CPA, CA, ACCA or CIMA
- Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Australian GST / tax requirements
- Power BI or other BI reporting experience as a user/consumer
- Proficiency with manufacturing-focused ERP / finance systems (e.g., NetSuite) and comfort working across multiple non-integrated systems
