An Estimator / Electrical Engineer plays a key role in the growth and commercial success of the business by supporting both its engineering and business development functions. Working alongside the operations team and senior engineers, this position bridges the gap between technical delivery and winning new work.

As an Estimator / Electrical Engineer you will prepare accurate cost estimates, quotations and tender submissions, and support the design, development and assessment of electrical systems across a wide range of projects. The role requires strong analytical, organisational and communication skills, sound commercial judgement, and the ability to manage multiple priorities at once.

You will cover a broad range of activities including electrical system design support, cost estimating, material and labour take-offs, tender preparation, supplier engagement and project reporting — all in line with Australian Standards (AS/NZS) and a strong commitment to safety and quality.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Prepare accurate cost estimates, quotations and tender submissions for electrical projects in line with client specifications and company standards

Review project plans, specifications and drawings to develop detailed material and labour take-offs

Actively identify and respond to new tendering opportunities through online platforms (e.g., Tenderlink, Vendorpanel)

Source competitive quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to support bid preparation

Collaborate with the Operations Manager and senior engineers to review, refine and present estimates and budgets

Maintain and update the tender register, project pipeline and quotation tracking log

Support the design, implementation and improvement of electrical systems and equipment for industrial, commercial and domestic applications

Perform engineering calculations and produce technical drawings and documentation using CAD and engineering software

Ensure electrical designs and documentation conform to relevant Australian Standards (AS/NZS), codes and customer requirements

Evaluate system safety, reliability and performance

Prepare reports and compile data on current and potential electrical engineering projects

Contribute to a high standard of quality and compliance across all work

Accurately complete daily timesheets with details of work completed within timesheet hours

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA (MANDATORY)

Degree in Electrical Engineering, or an electrical trade qualification, together with relevant estimating and/or engineering experience

Sound understanding of Australian electrical standards, codes and safety requirements (AS/NZS)

Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications and technical documents

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Effective written and verbal communication skills in English

Commercially aware, with a positive attitude and willingness to take on a variety of tasks

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

Experience with estimating software (e.g., Buildsoft, CostX or similar)

Familiarity with online tendering platforms (e.g., Tenderlink, Vendorpanel)

Experience estimating for the Australian electrical or construction market

Experience working with or supporting an Australian-based team

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (S.M.A.R.T)

Tender Accuracy — all estimates and quotations submitted with accurate material, labour and subcontractor costs, with a variance of no more than 5% against actuals on awarded projects

Tender Timeliness — all tender submissions and quotations completed and submitted by the required deadline, with no late submissions

Tender Win Rate — maintain a competitive tender win rate, tracked monthly and reviewed quarterly against industry benchmarks

Compliance — all electrical designs and documentation conform to relevant Australian Standards, codes and client specifications

Communication — respond to internal and external stakeholder enquiries within 24 hours

Pipeline Reporting — tender register and project pipeline updated and reported to the Operations Manager monthly

Timesheet Compliance — accurate daily timesheets submitted within timesheet hours for every working day
