As a leading player in the EV market, VinFast is dedicated to delivering high-quality, cutting-edge electric vehicles that redefine the driving experience. Our team consists of passionate professionals driven by a shared vision of creating a greener and more sustainable future through innovation, technology, and excellence.

The Vehicle Design and Integration Lead Engineer Powertrain will lead the design, development, and integration of the electric bus powertrain systems to ensure optimal performance, efficiency, reliability, and compliance with global standards. This role focuses on electric motors, drivetrains, battery integration, high-voltage systems, cooling, and related control interfaces. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in electric propulsion systems, deep understanding of commercial vehicle operational demands, and proven ability to balance performance, cost, and durability targets for large-scale E-Bus production.

  • Powertrain Design and Integration Leadership
  • Lead the end-to-end design and integration of all PWT systems, including traction motors, motor controllers, gearboxes, battery packs, high-voltage distribution systems, thermal management, and regenerative braking systems.
  • Ensure the PWT module meets vehicle performance targets (acceleration, range, gradeability) and operational requirements for public transport duty cycles.
  • Oversee interface alignment between PWT systems, chassis components, and vehicle electrical architecture for seamless integration.
  • Conduct competitive benchmarking of E-Bus powertrain technologies to identify opportunities for performance and cost improvements.
  • Regulatory and Compliance Oversight
  • Interpret and apply global and regional EV safety, emissions (where applicable), and homologation regulations specific to PWT systems.
  • Ensure all PWT components meet CMVR, AIS, BIS, UN-ECE and other relevant standards.
  • Collaborate with validation and homologation teams to resolve any design gaps and achieve regulatory compliance.
  • Performance Optimization & Cost Engineering
  • Drive efficiency and reliability improvements in E-motors, gearbox, inverter, and thermal systems while minimizing energy losses.
  • Lead cost-down initiatives for BOM optimization in PWT systems without compromising quality or performance.
  • Evaluate emerging materials, manufacturing methods, and EV powertrain innovations to enhance durability and reduce life-cycle costs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with battery engineering, chassis, electrical, procurement, manufacturing, and service teams to ensure PWT design feasibility and maintainability.
  • Support timely resolution of technical issues through design, prototyping, validation, and SOP stages.
  • Coordinate with Engineering Service Providers (ESPs) to track deliverables, verify data, and manage outsourced development work.
  • Process Improvement & Reporting
  • Champion continuous improvement in PWT design and validation processes.
  • Utilize tools such as CATIA, PLM, CAE, CFD, and virtual simulations to accelerate development and reduce prototyping costs.
  • Prepare technical documentation, validation reports, and integration summaries for management and cross-functional teams.
  • Monitor and report emerging trends in commercial EV powertrain technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in electric powertrain design and integration (preferably for commercial or public transport vehicles).
  • Deep knowledge of e-motors, gearboxes, high-voltage systems, inverters, battery integration, and thermal management.
  • Strong familiarity with global EV safety and homologation standards.
  • Proven record in cost optimization and supplier collaboration.
