Senior Project Manager Data Engineering

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager Data Engineering to lead large-scale data, analytics, and digital transformation programs for retail and omnichannel businesses. The ideal candidate will possess strong project delivery expertise, stakeholder management capabilities, and a solid understanding of modern data platforms, cloud ecosystems, and enterprise transformation initiatives.

This role requires driving end-to-end program execution, managing cross-functional teams, ensuring governance and delivery excellence, and partnering with business and technology leaders to deliver measurable business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Program & Delivery Leadership

• Own and drive end-to-end delivery of enterprise data engineering, analytics, and digital transformation initiatives.
• Ensure successful execution of programs within agreed scope, timelines, budgets, quality standards, and business objectives.
• Establish delivery governance frameworks, project plans, milestones, and performance metrics.
• Manage dependencies, risks, issues, escalations, and mitigation plans proactively.

Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate closely with business, product, architecture, engineering, analytics, and leadership teams.
• Translate business priorities into actionable project roadmaps and execution plans.
• Facilitate executive steering committee meetings, workshops, and governance reviews.
• Provide regular status reporting, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Retail & Business Alignment

• Leverage strong understanding of retail and grocery business processes, including:
• Store Operations
• Merchandising
• Pricing & Promotions
• Inventory Management
• Supply Chain & Fulfillment
• Omnichannel Commerce
• Customer Experience & Loyalty
• Ensure technology solutions align with evolving business needs and strategic objectives.

Data & Technology Transformation

• Lead data modernization, cloud migration, analytics, and digital transformation initiatives.
• Work closely with data engineering and architecture teams to drive scalable and reliable data solutions.
• Review high-level solution designs and ensure adherence to engineering, testing, deployment, and operational best practices.
• Support technology roadmap planning, transformation assessments, and business value realization initiatives.

Team Leadership & Governance

• Lead distributed, offshore, and cross-functional teams across multiple workstreams.
• Drive accountability, delivery excellence, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
• Mentor project teams and build a high-performance delivery culture.
• Ensure effective resource planning, utilization, and capacity management.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
• 11-15 years of experience in Project Management, Program Management, IT Consulting, or Digital Transformation.
• Proven track record of delivering large-scale Data Engineering, Analytics, Cloud, or Enterprise Technology programs.
• Strong experience managing retail, grocery, or omnichannel transformation initiatives.
• Demonstrated success managing complex programs involving multiple stakeholders, vendors, and technology teams.
• Strong understanding of project management methodologies, governance models, and delivery frameworks.
• Experience managing budgets, timelines, resource planning, risks, and stakeholder communications.

Technical Expertise

• Good understanding of modern Data Engineering concepts and architectures.
• Exposure to Databricks, Data Lakes, Data Warehousing, and Analytics platforms.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as:
• Microsoft Azure
• AWS
• Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Understanding of:
• Data Pipelines
• ETL/ELT Frameworks
• Data Governance
• Data Quality
• Business Intelligence & Reporting
• Advanced Analytics Platforms

Note: Deep hands-on development expertise is not mandatory; however, the ability to understand and govern technical solutions is essential.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working with leading Retail, Grocery, Ecommerce, or Consumer Goods organizations.
• Exposure to Databricks-led data modernization and migration programs.
• Experience managing cloud-based data platform implementations and transformation initiatives.
• Background in consulting, digital transformation, or enterprise technology delivery environments.
• PMP, Prince2, Scrum Master, SAFe, or Agile certifications will be an added advantage.
