About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Elastic Search Engineer / Technical Lead to own the Elastic workstream initiative comparing Elastic Search with Google Retail Search. The role requires hands-on leadership across search architecture, query routing, API integration, data ingestion, relevance, performance, A/B testing and UAT.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the Elastic workstream technical implementation.
• Understand the existing platform, API contract, data schema, ingestion architecture and downstream consumers.
• Define Elastic indexing, mappings, analyzers, queries, relevance and performance strategy.
• Design/contribute to Elastic/Google query routing and common response transformation.
• Ensure existing API contract and data schema remain unchanged.
• Lead Elastic integration with Java applications and microservices.
• Work with data engineers on ingestion extensions and batch/real-time decisions.
• Establish search benchmarks, comparison metrics and A/B-test measurement.
• Analyze Elastic vs. Google differences and lead troubleshooting.
• Define test scenarios covering product, pricing, inventory, taxonomy and search edge cases.
• Lead UAT/business acceptance support and mentor engineers.
• Drive technical decisions, reviews, risk mitigation and documentation.
  
  

Required Skills

• 7+ years software engineering experience.
• Deep Elasticsearch expertise including architecture, Query DSL, relevance and performance.
• Strong Java, microservices and REST API experience.
• Distributed systems and data-pipeline knowledge.
• Large-scale search/catalog implementation experience.
• Search relevance and analytics experience.
• Experience integrating platforms without breaking API contracts.
• Strong debugging and performance optimization.
• Technical leadership and ability to deliver under aggressive timelines.

• Retail/e-commerce experience.
• Large product catalog / SKU-based search experience.
• Cloud, Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD knowledge.
• Streaming or near-real-time data pipelines.
• Semantic/vector search experience.
• Generative AI, AI Agents / Agentic AI or AI-assisted engineering experience.
• Experience using AI/agents for test automation, data mapping, search evaluation, troubleshooting or engineering productivity.
• Google Cloud / Google Retail Search experience.
• Experience with 1M+ SKU catalogs.
