About the role
Were looking for an Industrial Automation Engineer who can build robust C++ applications and integrate them with PLCs and SCADA systems for real-world manufacturing environments. Youll design, develop, and commission control solutions end-to-endfrom field devices to dashboards.
What youll do:
- Design and implement C++ services (Windows/Linux) for device control, data acquisition, and industrial protocols (TCP/IP, Serial, OPC UA, Modbus, Profinet/EtherCATnice to have).
- Program PLCs (IEC 61131-3: Ladder, Structured Text, FBD) and configure I/O, safety, and motion as needed.
- Build and configure SCADA/HMI screens, alarms, historian logging, and user roles.
- Integrate factory data with MES/IIoT platforms and REST/OPC interfaces.
- Write tests, perform code reviews, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git).
- Create technical documentation (FDS, SDS, FAT/SAT/Commissioning checklists).
- Support on-site commissioning and troubleshooting (travel 1025%, as needed).
- Collaborate with electrical/ME engineers and project managers to deliver on time and to spec.
Must-have qualifications:
- 35 years in industrial automation or embedded/controls software.
- Strong C++ (C++17 or newer preferred), STL, multithreading, and IPC on Windows and/or Linux.
- Hands-on PLC experience with at least one family: Siemens (TIA Portal S7-1200/1500), Allen-Bradley (Studio 5000 ControlLogix/CompactLogix), or Beckhoff (TwinCAT 3).
- Practical SCADA/HMI experience with one or more: Ignition, AVEVA/Wonderware, Siemens WinCC, GE iFIX, Citect.
- Solid understanding of industrial networking, I/O, and safety basics; ability to read P&IDs/electrical drawings.
- Clear communication in English; comfortable working with customers and vendors.
Nice to have:
- Field protocols: OPC UA, Modbus RTU/TCP, Profinet, EtherCAT, MQTT.
- Embedded Linux/RTOS; CMake; scripting (Python).
- IIoT/Cloud exposure (Azure IoT, AWS IoT), databases (PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB/InfluxDB).
- Knowledge of functional safety/standards (IEC 61508/ISO 13849), GAMP, or GMP environments.
- Experience with historians, reporting, and OEE dashboards.
