Assistant Director (Digital Services, AI & Business Transformation)

About the Role

The Department of Corporate Digitization, Process Re-engineering and AI (CoRe+) is seeking an experienced Assistant Director to drive digital transformation, product ownership, AI adoption, and strategic technology initiatives across the organisation.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Director, this role serves as a Product Owner, Project Owner, and AI Transformation Lead responsible for shaping digital products, driving business outcomes, and enabling the effective adoption of emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI), automation, and enterprise digital platforms.

The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of business-critical products and initiatives while partnering closely with business stakeholders, technology teams, vendors, and leadership teams to deliver measurable business value.

As the organisation continues its digital and AI transformation journey, this role will play a critical part in redesigning business processes, identifying opportunities for AI enablement, and ensuring that digital investments are aligned with business priorities and strategic objectives.

What You'll Do:

Product Ownership & Portfolio Management

• Act as Product Owner for assigned digital products and platforms, including but not limited to: HR Buddy / Compliance AI / Project Portfolio Management (PPM) Platform / Future digital products and enterprise platforms within the portfolio
• Develop and maintain product vision, roadmap, business cases, and investment plans
• Drive product strategy and prioritization to maximize business value and user adoption
• Manage product lifecycle activities including enhancements, upgrades, vendor management, renewals, and platform evolution
• Establish governance structures and performance monitoring for product portfolios

AI Transformation & Digital Innovation

• Lead the identification, evaluation, and implementation of AI-enabled solutions to improve organizational productivity, decision-making, and service delivery
• Partner with business units to redesign business processes by leveraging AI, automation, analytics, and digital technologies
• Drive adoption of enterprise AI capabilities such as Microsoft Copilot, Generative AI, Intelligent Automation, Agentic AI, and emerging AI products
• Evaluate and manage AI vendors, AI products, and proof-of-concepts from ideation through implementation
• Develop AI business cases, value realization plans, and adoption strategies
• Provide thought leadership on emerging technology trends and their business applications

Project Leadership & Digital Delivery

• Serve as Project Owner for strategic digital transformation initiatives under the assigned product portfolio
• Lead end-to-end project delivery from concept, business case development, funding approval, procurement, implementation, adoption, and benefit realization
• Work with business stakeholders to manage competing priorities and align project outcomes with strategic business objectives
• Oversee project governance, risk management, issue management, and reporting to senior leadership
• Drive successful delivery across agile, hybrid, and waterfall delivery methodologies where appropriate

Business Transformation & Stakeholder Management

• Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities for transformation and innovation
• Translate business challenges into digital solutions and strategic initiatives
• Facilitate workshops and engagement sessions to gather requirements, define future-state capabilities, and align stakeholders
• Develop executive-level presentations, proposals, and strategic recommendations
• Act as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders on digital opportunities, technology investments, and AI-enabled transformation

Procurement, Vendor & Commercial Management

• Lead tendering activities, RFPs, RFQs, market scans, and vendor evaluations
• Develop business and technical evaluation criteria for procurement exercises
• Manage vendor performance, contract negotiations, service levels, and commercial deliverables
• Oversee implementation partners, solution providers, consultants, and managed service vendors
• Ensure value-for-money outcomes for technology investments

Technology Leadership

Maintain broad knowledge across enterprise technologies, including but not limited to:

AI Opportunity Identification

Proactively identify areas where AI, automation, or digital technologies can eliminate manual effort, improve decision-making, and enhance service delivery

Workforce Augmentation

Partner with business stakeholders to redesign work processes and operating models by integrating AI capabilities into daily operations

Agent & Automation Ownership

Oversee the implementation of AI agents, copilots, digital assistants, and automation solutions to improve productivity and customer experience

AI Governance

Ensure AI initiatives comply with organizational governance, security, risk, data privacy, and compliance requirements

Benefits Realization

Develop frameworks to measure and track business outcomes achieved through AI and automation initiatives

What You'll Need:

Experience

• Minimum 8-12 years of experience in technology, digital transformation, business transformation, product management, consulting, or related disciplines
• Proven experience managing digital products, enterprise platforms, or transformation programmes
• Experience leading enterprise technology projects and cross-functional teams
• Experience managing technology vendors and procurement exercises
• Experience developing business cases and presenting to senior management
• Experience implementing AI, automation, analytics, or digital transformation initiatives will be highly advantageous
