Position Overview
VINFAST is a pioneering electric vehicle (EV) company committed to revolutionizing the automotive industry with sustainable and innovative mobility solutions. As a leading player in the EV market, VinFast is dedicated to delivering high-quality, cutting-edge electric vehicles that redefine the driving experience. Our team consists of passionate professionals driven by a shared vision of creating a greener and more sustainable future through innovation, technology, and excellence.
The Wiring Harness Lead Engineer will lead the end-to-end development, validation, and optimization of vehicle wiring harness systems for VinFast programs, ensuring design integrity, manufacturability, cost efficiency, and timely delivery throughout all development phases.
Key Responsibilities
Program Responsibilities:
Timing
- Define and track schematic and harness design change. Ensure the system is functional when releasing for every build-phase.
- Ensure completeness of all components (wires specification, connector names, connector part numbers, etc.) be implemented in the design to avoid delays.
- Improve and reduce activity hours by creating, updating Wiring Harness Systems Physical Schematics directly in the Capital Logic and sync to the Capital Harness designer/Capital XC.
Quality
Technical Documents:
- Design and develop vehicle system architecture.
- Understanding the functionality of various electrical components and how they need to be interconnected.
- Creating Logical Schematics for developing, maintaining and defining electrical connectivity, signal flow, and component relationships within the harness.
- Specify electrical parameters such as voltage, current, signal types, and grounding requirements for different circuits within the harness.
- Collaborating with other engineering teams related to the selection of appropriate connectors, terminals, wires, and other harness components based on electrical, mechanical, and environmental requirements.
- Optimization of different architectural options, considering factors like signal integrity, EMC (electromagnetic compatibility), and overall system performance.
Simulation And Analysis
- Core part is Involved in creating accurate simulation models of the wire harness within the Capital logic tool. This includes defining components, their electrical characteristics, and the network topology.
- Conduct various electrical simulations in Capital Logic, such as voltage drop analysis, current carrying capacity analysis, power distribution analysis, and potentially signal integrity simulations, to verify the electrical performance of the harness design.
- Identify potential electrical issues, such as excessive voltage drops, overloading of wires, or signal integrity problems, and propose design modifications to resolve them.
- Interpreting simulation results, providing analysis, and communicating findings to the relevant Component Owners.
- Simulation results would be used to validate design decisions and ensure that the wiring harness meets the required electrical performance specifications.
- Work closely with other harness teams to sync physical schematics with the harness designer. Ensure the physical schematics is accurate so that there will be no error during synchronization.
- Maintaining clear and comprehensive documentation of the harness design, simulation models, and analysis results.
- Involved in investigating and resolving electrical issues that arise during prototyping, testing, or even in the field as necessary.
Bom
- Provide engineering analysis in optimizing module pinning to improve connector usage.
- Review, create electrical design parameter analysis to optimize wire sizing in the Systems Schematics.
Design/Drawings
- Convert xml data from supplier into Vinfast standard physical schematics for Inhouse Engineering Design Activity. If the supplier data is not readable by Capital logic or have many errors, the schematic could be re-drawn.
- Create a Vinfast standard component or device symbol to use within the physical schematics.
- Print and share the physical schematics to engineering team as a reference and guidance especially to the harness team for harness development and vehicle build issue analysis and troubleshooting.
Integration, Testing & Validation
- Run Design Rule Check (DRC) in the whole physical schematic to check for wiring connectivity integrity.
- Run simulation tool to verify voltage drop, fuse value to wire sizing validation.
- Generate netlist to validate from-to connectivity, wire listing, connector listing.
- Evaluate wiring harness functional integration during Vehicle Builds from EP to SOP and provide technical solutions on Vehicle Build Issues.
Cost & Common Component
- Create an early system validation to minimize late engineering design changes.
- Review and analyze vehicle systems commonality to improve synergy prior to design maturity.
- Review and analyze Component Data Sheets for Systems data sanity.
Requirements
Technical & Process Requirements:
- Possess knowledge of wiring components (not limited to types and sizes of wires, connectors, coverings, and their functions)
- Experience in Capital logic and simulation
- Ensure 2D drawings align with the schedule and are updated promptly according to project timing and technical requirements.
- Proficient in systems schematics, grounding systems to accurately reflect wire information in 2D drawings.
- Background and experience in automotive wiring harness technical requirements (not limited to automotive test standards, tolerances, special wire properties, etc.).
- Collaboration with other departments (mechanical, electrical, and other engineering teams including project teams) to provide effective design solutions (not limited to standards/guidelines, dimensions, materials, 2D or 3D details if needed, features, tolerances).
- Work with suppliers to ensure products meet both VinFast standards and the supplier's production standards.
- Review drawing changes to ensure they meet design requirements.
- Verify and confirm that drawing information matches system documents (schematics), component datasheets, and promptly address discrepancies.
- Check and confirm accuracy of 2D drawings before transferring them to other departments for production. Ensure wire harness designs are accurate and comply with current VinFast technical standards.
- Working knowledge in DFMEA, DFM, DVP&R, SPB and related engineering design change requirements.
