Job Description

A leading global manufacturer is seeking a Senior Production Planning Manager to oversee and elevate all planning activities at their advanced optics site in Binh Duong, Vietnam.

This pivotal role offers you the opportunity to build and nurture a high-performing planning team, ensuring exceptional customer service while optimising planning efficiency and inventory levels. You will be empowered to drive process improvements, implement best-in-class planning tools, and collaborate with cross-functional teams across the organisation. The company values your expertise in production planning and inventory control, providing a supportive environment where your skills can flourish. With a commitment to professional development, flexible working opportunities, and a knowledgeable team culture, this is an outstanding chance for you to make a significant impact in a thriving industry.

  • You will lead the entire production planning function at an advanced manufacturing site, shaping strategy and driving operational excellence through effective team management and process optimisation.
  • The organisation offers a collaborative environment with supportive leadership, ongoing training opportunities, and access to cutting-edge technology to help you achieve your professional goals.
  • Enjoy flexible working arrangements and generous pension contributions as part of a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your wellbeing and career growth.

What you'll do:

As the Senior Production Planning Manager, you will play a central role in shaping the future of production operations at the advanced optics facility in Binh Duong. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve overseeing all facets of production planning-from capacity optimisation to inventory management-while building a cohesive team dedicated to delivering outstanding results. You will work collaboratively with various departments to resolve challenges swiftly, ensure timely deliveries that meet or exceed customer expectations, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the site. By leveraging your expertise in both manual and automated multi-step assembly processes, you will help streamline workflows, reduce costs, and enhance overall efficiency. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency but also strong interpersonal skills; you will inspire your team through supportive leadership while maintaining open lines of communication with stakeholders at every level. Your ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on problem-solving will be key as you guide the organisation towards sustained growth and operational excellence.

  • Oversee all aspects of production planning at the advanced optics site, ensuring that capacity planning is optimised to maximise revenue and meet customer demand consistently.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve planning tools that track detailed daily plans versus actuals, enabling greater flexibility and cost optimisation within manufacturing operations.
  • Collaborate closely with related departments to analyse root causes of delayed deliveries, address issues promptly, and maintain excellent on-time delivery performance for customers.
  • Monitor promised ship dates and ensure alignment with customer request dates by tracking delivery requirements and proactively managing any discrepancies.
  • Maximise equipment utilisation by calculating plant capacity investments based on evolving customer requirements and proposing strategic enhancements as needed.
  • Control raw material ordering processes to guarantee sufficient supply for production while minimising excess inventory and associated costs.
  • Conduct regular meetings-daily, weekly, monthly-with cross-functional teams to identify potential issues related to planning and facilitate effective solutions that support business objectives.
  • Respond accurately and promptly to customer inquiries regarding order status, delivery timelines, and other planning-related matters to maintain high levels of satisfaction.
  • Manage inventory control by maintaining appropriate stock levels, providing rolling demand forecasts to purchasing teams, reviewing backlog periods, and updating production yields in real time.
  • Lead a motivated planning team by ensuring proper staffing, fostering engagement through training and development initiatives, implementing robust performance management processes, and promoting open communication channels.

What you bring:

To excel as Senior Production Planning Manager at this advanced manufacturing site, you will bring a wealth of experience gained from over a decade working within production planning roles in complex industrial environments. Your background should include substantial exposure to inventory control practices as well as hands-on involvement with multi-process assembly operations-ideally within optics or related sectors. You have demonstrated success leading teams through periods of change by fostering engagement through training programmes and clear performance management strategies. Your technical acumen extends beyond traditional planning methods; you are adept at utilising sophisticated ERP systems like Epicor or Oracle to optimise workflows. Communication is one of your greatest strengths: you are comfortable presenting plans to global audiences in English (and Chinese language skills would be an added advantage), facilitating discussions that drive consensus among diverse stakeholders. Your approach combines analytical rigour with empathy-you understand how data-driven insights can inform better decisions while remaining sensitive to the needs of colleagues across functions. Above all else, your commitment to collaboration ensures that everyone works together towards shared goals.

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, Finance or Economics-or another relevant field-is required for this position.
  • At least ten years of experience in production planning and inventory control within manufacturing environments is essential for success in this role.
  • A minimum of five years managerial or leadership experience overseeing teams in complex manufacturing settings is highly desirable.
  • Proven expertise in master scheduling for both high-level master plans and detailed production plans involving multi-process products is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working within industries such as optical component manufacturing or similar fields requiring multi-step assembly processes will set you apart from other candidates.
  • Advanced knowledge of production planning software systems (such as Epicor or Oracle) is necessary for effective performance in this position.
  • Fluency in English-both verbal and written-is required; the ability to communicate confidently with global stakeholders during cross-functional meetings is vital.
  • Excellent analytical abilities combined with strong problem-solving skills are crucial for identifying root causes of issues and implementing productive solutions quickly.
  • Customer-focused mindset with proven experience responding accurately and promptly to client needs is important for maintaining high satisfaction levels.
  • Outstanding communication skills-including interpersonal abilities-are needed for facilitating teamwork, conflict management, training initiatives, and open information flow throughout the organisation.
