We are looking for our first internal developer to bridge the gap between our ambitious creative designs and high-performance digital reality.
About The Role:
This is not a ticket-taking role. As our first internal developer, you will be the guardian of our technical standards. You will work directly with our UI/UX designers, Project Managers, external developers, and CRO specialists to turn creative concepts into high-performing, reliable eCommerce experiences. You will define our development workflows, establish coding standards, and ensure that every site we launch is optimized for speed, SEO, and conversion.
Key Responsibilities
1/ Shopify Development
Build and maintain custom Shopify themes using Liquid, Hypertext Markup Language, Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript, and JavaScript Object Notation.
- Translate Figma and User Interface and User Experience designs into accurate, responsive, and production-ready Shopify pages.
- Create reusable sections, blocks, templates, snippets, metafields, and theme settings.
- Develop custom product pages, landing pages, collection pages, promotional pages, and campaign experiences.
- Modify and extend existing themes without creating unnecessary technical debt.
- Work with Shopify Online Store 2.0 architecture, app blocks, theme app extensions, and third-party integrations.
- Support Shopify Plus functionality, checkout extensions, and Shopify Functions where required.
- Troubleshoot theme, application, tracking, checkout, browser, and device-related issues.
2/ Code Quality and Technical Ownership
- Review and improve existing client theme code.
- Establish consistent coding standards, naming conventions, documentation, and development procedures.
- Use GitHub and version control for all meaningful theme changes.
- Work through development, staging, review, and production environments.
- Create clear deployment and rollback procedures.
- Conduct code reviews and prevent untested code from being published directly to live stores.
- Document custom functionality so that future developers can understand and maintain it.
- Use Artificial Intelligence tools to support development and code review while remaining personally accountable for the quality and accuracy of the final code.
3/ Performance and Technical Optimization
- Improve website speed, mobile performance, responsiveness, and Core Web Vitals.
- Reduce unnecessary JavaScript, unused applications, duplicate scripts, and inefficient theme code.
- Optimize images, fonts, video, tracking scripts, third-party applications, and asset loading.
- Identify technical issues that may affect conversion, search visibility, or customer experience.
- Carry out performance audits before and after major releases.
- Ensure websites work reliably across major browsers, screen sizes, and mobile devices.
4/ Search Visibility and Accessibility
- Implement technical Search Engine Optimization best practices.
- Maintain semantic page structure, metadata, canonical URLs, structured data, product schema, internal linking, and crawlability.
- Support search visibility across traditional search engines and Artificial Intelligence-assisted discovery platforms.
- Build accessible interfaces using appropriate semantic markup, keyboard navigation, labels, focus states, and alternative text.
- Work with marketing specialists to implement international, local, and e-commerce Search Engine Optimization requirements.
5/ Conversion Rate Optimization and Experimentation
- Work with Conversion Rate Optimization specialists to implement website tests and improvements.
- Build and test variations of product pages, landing pages, navigation, offers, bundles, forms, and calls to action.
- Support A/B testing and controlled website experiments.
- Implement analytics, pixels, event tracking, and consent tools correctly.
- Review test results with the marketing and Conversion Rate Optimization teams.
- Ensure experiments do not introduce speed, tracking, accessibility, or code-quality problems.
6/ Collaboration
- Work closely with User Interface and User Experience designers to ensure designs are technically achievable and correctly implemented.
- Advise designers early when an idea may affect performance, usability, responsiveness, or Shopify functionality.
- Work with project managers to estimate tasks, identify dependencies, and communicate realistic timelines.
- Explain technical matters clearly to non-technical colleagues and clients.
- Participate in project planning, development reviews, quality assurance, and website launches.
- Take ownership of problems and propose solutions rather than waiting for detailed instructions.
Required Experience
- Strong professional experience developing Shopify websites and custom themes.
- Advanced knowledge of Shopify Liquid.
- Strong knowledge of Hypertext Markup Language, Cascading Style Sheets, and modern JavaScript.
- Experience converting Figma designs into accurate, responsive web pages.
- Experience with Shopify Online Store 2.0, sections, blocks, templates, metafields, and theme settings.
- Experience using Git, GitHub, Shopify Command Line Interface, and local development workflows.
- Strong understanding of responsive design and mobile-first development.
- Demonstrable experience improving Shopify website performance.
- Understanding of technical Search Engine Optimization, structured data, accessibility, and Core Web Vitals.
- Experience integrating and troubleshooting Shopify applications, analytics tools, pixels, and third-party scripts.
- Ability to diagnose problems across themes, applications, browsers, devices, tracking, and checkout flows.
- Ability to write clean, reusable, well-documented, and maintainable code.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Ability to work from our Ho Chi Minh City office three days per week.
Preferred Experience
- Shopify Plus development experience.
- Shopify Functions, Checkout Extensibility, application development, or theme app extension experience.
- Experience with Klaviyo, Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel, Microsoft Clarity, and consent-management platforms.
- Experience with Conversion Rate Optimization, A/B testing, personalization, or experimentation platforms.
- Understanding of e-commerce analytics, customer journeys, Average Order Value, conversion rate, and checkout performance.
- Experience working in a creative agency or across multiple client accounts.
- Experience supporting international and multilingual Shopify stores.
- Basic understanding of Application Programming Interfaces, webhooks, and headless commerce.
- Experience using automated testing, Lighthouse, Theme Check, and Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment workflows.
What Success Looks Like
- During the first six months, the successful candidate will:
- Audit Red Arrow's active Shopify client websites and identify high-priority technical issues.
- Establish a consistent GitHub, staging, quality assurance, and deployment workflow.
- Reduce inconsistencies across existing Shopify codebases.
- Improve website speed and Core Web Vitals without compromising design quality.
- Create reusable development components that make future websites work faster.
- Improve communication between development, design, project management, marketing, and Conversion Rate Optimization teams.
- Reduce reliance on external freelancers for ongoing Shopify development.
- Deliver reliable website updates with fewer bugs, faster turnaround times, and clearer documentation.
