Job Description

As Senior Delivery Manager, you will own the end-to-end delivery of a portfolio of fixed-price (FP) engagements — ensuring projects are delivered on scope, on time, and on budget while maintaining the highest standards of client satisfaction. You will serve as the critical bridge between the senior management team, engineering organisation, and PMO — translating business strategy into executable delivery plans and ensuring seamless alignment across all three. Beyond project execution, you will play a key role in transforming how we deliver: driving AI adoption across the SDLC, and streamlining operational processes. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role that combines operational excellence with forward-thinking leadership.

Lead resource planning, allocation, and utilization optimization across the delivery portfolio - ensuring the right people are on the right projects at the right time, and that bench time is minimized and billability targets are met.
Drive operational efficiency by identifying bottlenecks in the SDLC and leading AI adoption initiatives to accelerate delivery (code generation, automated QA, AI-assisted planning).
Build and continuously improve delivery frameworks, processes, and governance standards across the organisation.
Serve as the primary strategic point of contact for C-level client stakeholders — managing expectations, escalations, and long-term relationship development.
Collaborate with Sales and Pre-sales to scope new FP engagements, assess risk, and define delivery models.
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Project Managers and Delivery Leads.
Define and track portfolio-level KPIs: on-time delivery rate, margin, utilization, client NPS.
Proactively identify delivery risks across the portfolio and implement mitigation strategies before they escalate.
Champion a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and client-centricity across delivery teams.

What Success Looks Like:

30 days: You have a full picture of the active project portfolio — risks, health, margins, resource allocation, and key client relationships. You have met every C-level client stakeholder and established your cadence with internal delivery leads.
90 days: You have identified the top 3 operational bottlenecks in the SDLC and launched at least one AI adoption initiative with measurable impact. Resource utilization rate is tracked and optimized. Portfolio on-time delivery rate is trending upward.
12 months: You have built a scalable delivery operating model adopted across all teams. Portfolio margin has improved by 10–15%, utilization targets are consistently met, and at least two AI-driven delivery improvements are in production. You are a trusted strategic partner to your clients and a key contributor to SmartDev's growth.

Qualifications

Must-Have:

10+ years of experience in software development and delivery, with at least 5+ years in a senior leadership role
Proven experience managing large, distributed teams of 50+ members in an IT outsourcing environment
Proven experience managing fixed-price contracts — scope management, change control, margin protection
Strong background in project and program management, delivery governance, and PMO operations
Experience working with international clients across EU, US, and APAC markets
Hands-on experience with resource planning, capacity management, and utilization optimization across multi-project portfolios
Business mindset with solid financial acumen — P&L ownership, margin management, budget forecasting, and utilization targets
Strong strategic thinking — able to connect day-to-day delivery decisions to business outcomes and long-term account growth
Demonstrated experience engaging and influencing C-level stakeholders on the client side
Track record of building and optimising delivery operations — processes, tooling, escalation frameworks, reporting
Hands-on experience with AI adoption in software delivery (AI-assisted development, automated testing, intelligent planning tools)
Fluent English — written and spoken, from daily team communication to executive-level presentations
Deep understanding of SDLC methodologies — Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, Kanban, and hybrid delivery models

Nice to Have:

PMP, PMI-ACP, SAFe, or equivalent delivery certification
Background in software engineering or technical architecture — able to credibly engage on technical trade-offs
Domain experience in one or more of: Financial Services (banking, payments, lending), Healthcare & Pharma (EHR, HL7/FHIR, compliance), or Retail & Logistics (e-commerce, supply chain, last-mile delivery)
Familiarity with AI development tooling — Claude (Anthropic), AI-powered QA platforms
Familiarity with Japanese business culture and experience working with Japanese clients is a strong plus
Experience setting up or scaling a Delivery Management Office (DMO) or PMO
