Position: Packaging Engineer
Location : Vietnam
Key Responsibilities
- Package Design & Development: Design, develop, and test primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging (e.g., boxes, blister packs, corrugated containers, pallet configurations) for new and existing products.
- Project Management: Lead packaging-related projects, managing timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful and on-time launch.
- Testing & Validation: Plan and conduct package testing (e.g., ISTA, ASTM) to validate package performance under various conditions including shock, vibration, compression, and environmental factors.
- Supplier Management: Collaborate with packaging material suppliers and converters to source materials, troubleshooting issues, and ensure quality standards are met.
- Cost Reduction & Optimization: Identify and implement opportunities for cost savings through material substitution, design optimization, and process improvements without compromising quality or performance.
- Sustainability: Drive sustainable packaging initiatives by researching and implementing recyclable, reusable, and biodegradable materials. Conduct life-cycle assessments and reduce packaging waste.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product Development, Marketing, Procurement, Logistics, and Manufacturing teams to ensure packaging meets all requirements (aesthetic, functional, and regulatory).
- Quality & Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve packaging-related failures and customer complaints. Implement robust corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Documentation & Standards: Create and maintain detailed packaging specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends, new materials, and packaging technologies to drive innovation within the company.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- 5+years of experience in packaging engineering, preferably in the MFG Industry.
- Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and MS Office Suite.
- In-depth knowledge of packaging materials (corrugated, plastics, foam, etc.) and manufacturing processes (die-cutting, thermoforming, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with package testing protocols and standards (e.g., ISTA, ASTM, TMH).
- Excellent project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Preferred:
- Experience with sustainable packaging principles and methodologies.
