About The Role
This is an impactful individual contributor role designed for a technical expert who excels at translating manufacturing data into strategic value. Reporting to the Director of Costing Excellence, you will lead the hands-on execution of Should-Cost modeling and Clean-Sheet analysis. You will navigate a fast-paced environment to provide the granular insights necessary to optimize cost structures and maintain Walmart's competitive edge in the global fashion market.
What You'll Do
- Execute Value Engineering Processes: Implement technical costing methods and Clean-Sheet procedures to ensure accurate, bottom-up cost calculations for all apparel products.
- Lead Advanced Should-Cost Analysis: Perform detailed day-to-day benchmarking by breaking down costs into raw materials, labor minutes (GSD), and factory overheads to identify margin opportunities.
- Integrate ESG & Ethical Costing: Incorporate sustainability variables and ethical labor compliance into financial models to reflect the true cost of responsible sourcing.
- Drive Digital Transformation: Operate and advance the use of AI-driven costing tools, predictive analytics, and digital platforms to ensure data integrity and real-time margin transparency.
- Optimize Total Landed Cost (TLC): Assist in tracking and reporting supplier performance while identifying geopolitical risks and logistics variables that impact the final landed cost.
- Support Strategic Negotiations: Provide the technical data and should-cost benchmarks required for vendor negotiations and communications to meet established cost targets.
- Partner Cross-Functionally: Collaborate with Merchandising, Product Development, and Sourcing teams to provide critical data for product launches and margin optimization initiatives.
- Champion Continuous Improvement: Identify and recommend process enhancements in costing operations to drive efficiency and departmental cost-effectiveness.
What You'll Bring
- Education: Master's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Industrial Engineering, Finance, Supply Chain, or Fashion Merchandising (MBA or advanced degree preferred).
- Professional Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in costing, sourcing, or supply chain management within apparel retail, with direct exposure to manufacturing operations.
- Technical Authority: Hands-on expertise in Clean-Sheet cost modeling, Value Engineering, and data-driven supplier negotiation strategies.
- Analytical Rigor: Strong problem-solving skills with high proficiency in AI-driven costing tools, enterprise systems, and advanced digital analytics.
- Global Sourcing Intelligence: Comprehensive knowledge of global sourcing markets, supplier management, and evolving fashion industry trends.
- Communication & Influence: Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to craft compelling, data-backed narratives for business partners.
- Digital Fluency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and a strong orientation toward utilizing technology for supply chain optimization.
- Project Leadership: Proven expertise in project management and planning within fast-paced, matrixed environments.
