Job Description

Position Overview:

The University & Career Pathways Counselor empowers students to discover their strengths, explore future possibilities, and make decisions about their academic, career, and university pathways.

Working closely with students, parents, teachers, and external partners, the counselor designs and delivers a comprehensive pathway programme from MYP through DP, supporting students in career exploration, subject selection, university preparation, personal profile development, leadership, and future readiness.

The counselor believes that university admission is not the destination but one milestone in a student's lifelong journey, and therefore focuses on helping every student find the pathway where they will flourish.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Student Future Pathway Development

- Guide students in identifying their strengths, interests, values, aspirations, and long-term goals.

- Conduct group and individual pathway counseling sessions beginning from Grade 8.

- Support students in developing personalized Future Pathway Plans that evolve throughout MYP and DP.

- Tracking student progress and reviewing pathway plans annually.

- Enforce student ownership of future planning and goal setting.

2. Career Education & Exploration

- Design and deliver a structured Career Education Programme for MYP students, including:

+ Self-discovery and strengths assessment

+ Career awareness and exploration

+ Future industries and emerging careers

+ Career interest inventories

- Coordinate: Career Fair/Career Talks, University tour/Company visits, Job shadowing/ Internship opportunities, Alumni career sharing, Experiential learning activities/ Projects.

3. University Counseling

- Provide comprehensive guidance to students and parents regarding: Global university systems, University selection, Best-fit university planning, Course and subject selection,

+ Entry requirements, Scholarships, Financial planning, Application timelines.

- Support students through all major application systems, including:

+ UCAS, Common App, Studielink, OUAC, Other international admission platforms.

- Guide students in preparing:

+ Personal statements, Essays, Portfolios, Activity lists, CVs, Interviews

4. Student Portfolio Development

- Support students in intentionally building meaningful portfolios through: Leadership, CAS, Service learning, Competitions, Research, Entrepreneurship, Community service, Academic enrichment.

- Ensure every student develops a well-rounded profile that reflects authentic growth rather than simply

academic achievement.

5. Parent Partnership

- Develop strong partnerships with parents by conducting pathway information sessions, university fair, parent workshops on university admissions and career trends, regular progress meetings and support families through important academic and career decisions

6. University & Industry Partnerships

- Develop and maintain relationships with: International universities, Local universities, Admissions

representatives, Scholarship providers, Employers, Industry partners, Alumni

Coordinate: University fairs, Campus visits, University experience sessions, Industry engagement

programmes, Scholarship information.

7. Supporting Document Preparation and Application

- Coordinate all aspects of university applications, including School Profile, Academic transcripts, predicted grades, Recommendation letters, supporting documentation, submit documentation using approved platforms such as: BridgeU, Cialfo, MaiaLearning, Other application systems

- Maintain accurate records of Applications, Offers, Scholarships, Acceptances, Student destinations.

8. Data & Program Evaluation

Maintain comprehensive records and analyze data relating to: student aspirations, career interests,

University destinations, Scholarships, acceptance rates, Alumni pathways, Student participation, Parent

satisfaction.

Use data to evaluate programme effectiveness and plan for continuous improvement.

9. Student Success & Wellbeing

- Work collaboratively with Teachers, Wellbeing team, IB Coordinators to ensure students are supported academically, socially, emotionally, and in their future planning.

- Promote a student-centered approach that values each learner's individual pathway and aspirations.

10. School Contribution

- Participate actively in Student Success Center initiatives.

- Support school events, student leadership programmes, and enrichment activities.

- Serve on relevant committees as assigned.

- Participate in duty supervision as required.

- Undertake additional responsibilities assigned by the line manager.

Job Requirement:

• Bachelor's degree required; degree in Education, Counselling, or related field preferred (Master's degree preferred).

• Minimum 3 years experience in university counselling or related guidance role.

• Experience working in an international or IB school environment is highly desirable.

• Strong knowledge of international university systems and application processes.

• Ability to guide students through multiple application platforms and pathways.

• Excellent communication skills with students, parents, and external stakeholders.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

• Student-centered, ethical, and confidential approach to counselling.
