Job Description

Technical Product Developer – Upholstery Furniture (DTC Brand)

Location: Ho Chi Minh City / Binh Duong / Dong Nai, Vietnam

Department: Product Development / Engineering

Reports To: Country Manager

About the Role

Poly & Bark is a direct-to-consumer furniture brand — we design, develop, and sell our own products directly to customers. We're looking for a Technical Product Developer who brings real hands-on furniture construction knowledge and enjoys working closely with factories to bring products to life. Experience working brand-side (rather than purely factory-side) is a plus, but we're open to strong technical candidates from a range of backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Product Development

Develop and review technical drawings, specifications, and finishing details for our product line. Get into the details of furniture structure, joinery, hardware, materials, and finishing methods, helping ensure products are both true to design intent and realistic to manufacture.

Prototype & Sample Management

Coordinate prototype development with suppliers to keep timelines on track. Review samples at each stage, flag technical risks or quality concerns early, and help drive improvements before mass production.

Supplier Coordination

Partner with OEM/ODM factories across Vietnam to work through construction and production questions together. Regular factory visits for sample reviews and hands-on troubleshooting.

Engineering & Value Optimization

Look for ways to improve quality, manufacturability, packaging, and cost — always keeping the end customer in mind.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with buying, sourcing, and quality teams, and keep everyone in the loop on development timelines and progress.

Qualifications

Experience

A few years (3-5+) of hands-on experience in furniture technical development — comfortable with sofa/upholstered construction and frame details, and ideally has done sample reviews or sign-offs at the factory level in Vietnam. Brand-side experience is a plus, but not required if your technical background is strong.

Technical Skills

Comfortable with AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, and everyday office/collaboration tools. Working knowledge of furniture construction methods, materials, and testing standards — upholstery experience especially welcome.

Soft Skills

Good communicator, detail-oriented, comfortable managing a few things at once. Confident enough in English to work directly with buyers and leadership, and comfortable pushing factories gently on timelines when needed.
