Role Description

Kallanish is seeking a market analyst to cover Vietnamese and other Asian steel markets. You will take charge of writing daily impartial, accurate and analytical stories on corporate, policy and trade developments in the region's ferrous markets, maintaining the current high standard. You will also be responsible for expanding the depth and frequency of Asian steel market coverage, including the establishment and conducting of regular price assessments.

A background in business/financial news is preferred, and experience covering hard commodities is a plus. Familiarity with price reporting or data journalism would be ideal. Most vital is a demonstrated ability to cover a sophisticated beat, develop sources, interact with the editorial team, work to a deadline, recognize market trends and deliver accurate and informative stories on a daily basis.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Identify daily news/developments in the Southeast Asian steel industry

Seek out, develop and manage relationships with contacts

Develop new areas of coverage

Verify market comments and/or rumours with multiple sources

Write a required two minimum articles per day

Produce accurate and original copy, not just what is written in a press release

Ensure filing to deadline

Assess and update weekly ferrous product prices

Collaborate with other team members for special projects

Keep track of listed companies earnings reports and write up relevant stories

Interview steel company executives for stories/reports

Contribute content to and attend Kallanish conferences

Travel to industry events, network and cover for the publication

Qualifications and Skills:

Good written and spoken English. Asian languages, especially Vietnamese, an advantage

Positive attitude and good work ethic

Self-motivating and disciplined

Strong verbal and written communication

Ability and interest in conducting research

Enjoys working in a global team

Proficient in working with numbers

Background/understanding of commodity markets or industrial sectors

Knowledge of word processing software, Microsoft Excel
