Job overview

We are seeking a highly capable Engineering Manager to lead the development and delivery of large-scale Mobility and Payment platforms serving public transportation, transit operations, and digital payment ecosystems.

This role combines technical leadership, project execution, stakeholder management, and team development. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for driving system architecture, overseeing engineering delivery, managing strategic partnerships, and ensuring the successful implementation of mission-critical solutions across transportation operators, government agencies, banks, card schemes, and technology vendors.

The ideal candidate possesses strong software engineering expertise, excellent project leadership capabilities, and the ability to communicate complex technical solutions to both technical and executive stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Lead the design, development, and operation of large-scale Mobility and Payment systems.
  • Define and govern architecture standards across:
  • Backend platforms (GoLang, NodeJS)
  • Frontend applications (Angular, ReactJS)
  • Mobile applications (Android, iOS, Flutter)
  • Microservices and distributed systems
  • Design highly available, scalable, and resilient architectures capable of supporting high transaction volumes and mission-critical operations.
  • Drive payment technology integration, including:
  • ISO8583 messaging
  • EMV payment standards
  • Open-loop payment systems
  • Tokenization
  • QR payment solutions
  • Transit payment platforms
  • Oversee DevOps and infrastructure operations:
  • Docker
  • Kubernetes (K8s)
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Cloud infrastructure (AWS, CMC Cloud)
  • Monitoring, logging, and observability frameworks
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • Information Security standards
  • ISO 27001
  • PCI-DSS
  • EMV certification requirements
  • Maintain system reliability, security, and operational excellence with target uptime exceeding 99.9%.

2. Project & Delivery Management

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of Mobility and Payment projects from planning through deployment and operations.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, QA/QC teams, and technical stakeholders to ensure successful execution.
  • Build and maintain:
  • Technical proposals
  • Solution Design Specifications (SDS)
  • Statements of Work (SOW)
  • Product roadmaps
  • Budget and resource plans
  • Manage project risks, dependencies, resource allocation, milestones, and delivery quality.
  • Drive execution under aggressive timelines while maintaining engineering excellence and operational stability.

3. Stakeholder & Executive Communication

  • Act as the primary technical representative in engagements with:
  • Transportation operators
  • Public transportation authorities
  • Government agencies
  • Banks and financial institutions
  • Card schemes (Visa, Mastercard, Napas, JCB, American Express, UnionPay)
  • Hardware and solution vendors
  • Present and defend technical solutions during customer workshops, architecture reviews, and steering committee meetings.
  • Lead technical discussions, solution demonstrations, and proposal presentations for strategic projects.
  • Partner with Product and Executive Leadership to define long-term technology strategy and platform roadmap.

4. Team Leadership & People Development

  • Lead and develop high-performing engineering teams across Backend, DevOps, and Integration functions.
  • Coach and mentor Tech Leads and Senior Engineers.
  • Establish engineering best practices, development standards, and performance management processes.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support hiring, talent development, and organizational scaling initiatives.

Qualifications:

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5–8+ years of experience in software engineering, including leadership roles such as:
  • Tech Lead
  • Engineering Manager
  • Technical Project Manager
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale enterprise platforms or mission-critical systems.
  • Experience in project planning, resource estimation, proposal development, and stakeholder management.

Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on expertise in GoLang or Java/NodeJS, with deep mastery of at least one.
  • Experience working with Frontend technologies (Angular, ReactJS) and/or Mobile platforms (Android, iOS, Flutter).
  • Strong understanding of:
  • RESTful APIs and SOAP services
  • Microservices architecture
  • Distributed systems design
  • High-concurrency and high-availability systems
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Docker
  • Kubernetes
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Cloud infrastructure
  • Kafka or RabbitMQ
  • PostgreSQL
  • Redis
  • Time-series databases
  • Strong understanding of software security, scalability, and system reliability.

Leadership & Communication

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience presenting solutions and proposals to enterprise customers and senior leadership.
  • Strong project management and execution capabilities.
  • Business-oriented mindset with the ability to align technology decisions to organizational objectives.

Preferred

  • Experience in Mobility, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Public Transportation, or Transit Technology domains.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Payment systems
  • ISO8583
  • EMV standards
  • PCI-DSS compliance
  • Open-loop payment ecosystems
  • Automated Fare Collection (AFC)
  • Transit payment solutions
  • Experience working with government agencies, transportation authorities, or regulated industries.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and participate in discussions with international partners.
