Job Description

Build like a founder. Ship like Spartan.

Our customers are scaling fast - and so are we. That's why we're looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our world-class team.

At Spartan, we don't act like vendors. We embed with startups backed by YC, Pear VC, a16z, Techstars, and more — partnering with founders and engineers from Stanford, MIT, Yale, Google, Amazon, Uber, and beyond. Together, we help launch MVPs in 30 days and scale systems that power millions of users.

This isn't just another DevOps role. It's a chance to architect Kubernetes infrastructure that's scalable, secure, and self-healing — ensuring that startups we work with can scale like unicorns from day one.

You'll also be working at the frontier of AI: 70% of our portfolio today is LLM-powered. Our SREs design the container orchestration, observability, and cost-efficient infra that makes it all possible.

What You'll Do

  • Design and manage multi-cluster, multi-cloud Kubernetes environments (AWS EKS, GCP GKE, Azure AKS, on-prem).
  • Build high-availability, disaster-resilient, auto-scalable K8s infrastructure for production workloads.
  • Implement GitOps-driven CI/CD pipelines with tools like ArgoCD or FluxCD.
  • Lead the deployment, scaling, and lifecycle management of Kubernetes workloads.
  • Optimize performance, reliability, and cost efficiency across clusters and regions.
  • Secure workloads with RBAC, Network Policies, OPA/Gatekeeper, and vulnerability scanning.
  • Collaborate with development teams to containerize and modernize applications.
  • Mentor engineers on Kubernetes best practices and SRE workflows.

What We're Looking For

  • 1-6 years in DevOps, SRE, or cloud infra roles, and Kubernetes production environments
  • Strong skills in Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Helm, Ansible, CloudFormation.
  • Fluent in English - you'll work directly with US startup founders.
  • Open mindset and willingness to work in fast-paced startup environments.
  • Proven experience running enterprise-scale clusters in multi-region or hybrid setups.
  • Deep knowledge of Docker/OCI runtimes, Linux systems, networking, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient with monitoring/observability stacks: DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Jaeger.
  • Solid understanding of Kubernetes internals (API server, scheduler, kubelet, controller manager).

Nice-to-Have

  • Backend engineering experience is a strong plus.
  • Certifications: CKA, CKAD, CKS.
  • Experience with service mesh (Istio, Linkerd, Consul).
  • Contributions to open-source K8s or CNCF ecosystem.
  • Proficiency in cloud cost optimization for Kubernetes.
  • Experience applying SRE best practices and advanced automation tooling.
  • Flexible to start part-time before transitioning to full-time.

Tech We Use

  • Kubernetes • Docker • Terraform • Helm • Ansible
  • AWS • GCP • Azure • Cloudflare
  • DataDog • Prometheus • Grafana • ELK • Jaeger
  • GitHub Actions • ArgoCD • FluxCD
  • AI-native tooling: Cursor • Claude • Codex

  • You will own real problems, ship real features, and grow fast

Career Growth

  • Work directly with US startup founders and engineers from Google, Amazon, Uber, and more.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge infra + AI stacks.
  • Transparent career path with mentorship from senior Spartan engineers.
  • Build infrastructure that scales startups from zero → IPO.

Benefits:
