1. Operational & Compliance Management
- Prepare and file periodic tax returns (VAT, CIT, Foreign Contractor Tax, Transfer Pricing, PIT).
- Lead monthly and year-end tax reconciliations and settlements.
- Monitor, manage, assess and advice technical improvement of e-invoice systems and ensure invoices are issued in compliance with changing requirement by regulations.
- Reconcile tax liabilities with local tax authorities and resolve discrepancies.
- Coordinate and support tax audits, financial statement audits, and inquiries from authorities or internal stakeholders.
- Maintain a robust internal tax compliance framework, including controls and process documentation.
2. Advisory & Strategic Tax Planning
- Provide tax advisory support for new services, business models, promotions, and pricing structures.
- Assess and advise on the tax implications of product or service launches, contractual structures, and commercial arrangements.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional projects on tax automation, compliance enhancement, or system integration (e.g. tax module in Oracle, e-invoice system, internal systems).
- Continuously analyze risks and opportunities from ongoing tax reforms, and update leadership on implications and strategies.
- Evaluate and recommend tax-efficient business structures and intercompany arrangements.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with local and central tax authorities, including participation in consultations or lobbying activities where applicable.
3. Tax Policy Intelligence & Risk Management
- Proactively track and interpret changes in Vietnamese tax legislation, especially those impacting the digital economy, e-commerce, gig economy, and ride hailing.
- Translate evolving regulations into practical business impact assessments and mitigation plans.
- Develop internal alerts, training materials, and update sessions for relevant stakeholders to enhance tax awareness across departments.
- Represent the company's interests in policy discussions or through industry associations if applicable.
4. Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor a small team of tax accountants, ensuring professional growth and performance.
- Foster a culture of ownership, curiosity, and collaboration in tax and finance operations.
- Collaborate with finance, legal, operations, and product teams to ensure tax-compliant business execution.
- Ad hoc request/projects as needed.
Candidate Requirements
Must-Have:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in tax advisory, compliance, or auditpreferably with exposure to digital platforms, e-commerce, or ride-hailing.
- Strong understanding of Vietnamese tax system and its practical challenges (e.g., ambiguous laws, frequent reforms, complex administrative procedures).
- Track record of handling tax audits, regulatory inquiries, and compliance projects.
- Solid accounting knowledge; experience with systems (Oracle, e-invoice, etc.) is a plus.
- Strong analytical and communication skills in both Vietnamese and English.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, tech-driven, and highly ambiguous regulatory environment.
- High level of integrity, ownership, and professional curiosity.
Preferred:
- Big 4 background or experience in international tax consulting.
- Prior exposure to managing stakeholder relationships with GDT or MoF.
- Experience in tax lobbying, public-private working groups, or legal advocacy.
- Familiarity with TP documentation, APA/MAP procedures, and BEPS regulations.
- Certification: CPA, CTA, or equivalent preferred.
