Senior Software Engineer (Authorisation)
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join Digital Access Management and focus on building and evolving authorisation policies across NAB, serving millions of customers in Australia. This role is centred on policy engineering and business-aligned access modelling rather than hands-on development of authentication or core authorisation services. A strong focus on better business modelling and sustainable product evolution will enable the team to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions aligned with both technology and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain authorisation policies on the Authorize platform using the Authorize Policy Editor.
- Uplift and modernise the current authorisation system to improve scalability, maintainability, and self-service capability.
- Develop and maintain system and integration test scripts, and provide support for SIT activities.
- Build and support policy-as-code solutions using models such as ABAC, ReBAC, or hybrid approaches.
- Contribute to end-to-end software delivery across design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Collaborate with product, solution designer, and product teams across Australia, India, and Vietnam to prioritise and deliver secure capabilities.
- Resolve technical blockers and production issues impacting delivery teams.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, planning, retrospectives, showcases) and contribute to continuous improvement.
Skills and Experience
- Have 5+ years of software engineering experience with strong problem-solving skills and hands-on production support roster experience.
- Strong development experience in one or more languages such as Java, Python, Go, or equivalent, or previous experience in DevOps or platform engineering teams.
- Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), engineering best practices, and modern delivery methods.
- Hands-on experience in identity, authentication, or authorisation domains.
- Experience with role-based and policy-based access models (RBAC, ABAC, ReBAC).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Jenkins, Harness, and AWS.
- Experience integrating enterprise systems and APIs, or integrating with SaaS platforms.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across distributed teams in Australia, India, and Vietnam.
- High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to manage competing priorities.
Nice to Have
- Experience with policy engines and authorisation frameworks.
- Experience modernising legacy platforms and enabling self-service capabilities.
- Exposure to multi-tenant architecture and secure platform design.
