We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to manage embedded Linux system development projects, from design, firmware/BSP development, hardware integration, and testing through to production and handover. The right candidate must understand the embedded hardware–software development lifecycle and be able to coordinate effectively across firmware, hardware, and manufacturing/outsourcing partner teams.
Job Description
- Project Management
- Plan timelines and allocate resources for Embedded Linux projects.
- Build and track the WBS, milestones, and critical path (including hardware-related milestones: EVT, DVT, PVT, MP).
- Manage hardware-specific risks: component delays, circuit design defects, BOM changes.
- Control budget, scope, and change requests.
- Technical Coordination
- Work closely with the Firmware/Embedded Software, Hardware/PCB, BSP/Driver, and QA teams.
- Track progress on bootloader, kernel, and driver development, and hardware–software integration.
- Coordinate with component suppliers and manufacturing/outsourcing partners (where applicable).
- Oversee the testing process: unit testing, integration testing, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and compliance testing (EMC/EMI as needed).
- Stakeholder Management & Reporting
- Serve as the primary point of contact between customers/partners and the internal technical team.
- Provide regular progress reports to leadership and customers (status reports, dashboards).
- Lead meetings: kickoff, design review, milestone review, retrospective.
- Process & Quality Management
- Apply the appropriate methodology for hardware–firmware projects (Waterfall/V-model, potentially combined with Agile for the software component).
- Ensure complete project documentation: technical requirements, system architecture, schematic/BOM review, test plan, release notes.
- Track the product certification process (CE/FCC/RoHS) where applicable.
- Team Management
- Coordinate with the Firmware Tech Lead and Hardware Lead to allocate work appropriately.
- Help resolve resource conflicts when multiple projects run in parallel.
- Mentor junior PMs, if any.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Project Manager in embedded software/hardware.
- Successfully managed at least 2–3 Embedded Linux projects from design through production/handover.
- Basic understanding of embedded system architecture: bootloader (U-Boot), Linux kernel, BSP, drivers, cross-compile toolchains.
- Understanding of the hardware development process: schematics, PCB layout, BOM, EVT/DVT/PVT/MP.
- Experience working with common hardware platforms (ARM, NXP, TI, Qualcomm, etc.) is a plus.
- Proficient in Waterfall/V-model; familiar with Agile for flexible application to the software component.
- Proficient with project management tools: Jira, Confluence, MS Project, or equivalent.
- Strong planning skills, and good supply-chain risk and budget management.
- PMP or PRINCE2 certification is a plus.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work with multiple parties: firmware engineers, hardware engineers, factories/outsourcing partners.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills under schedule pressure and hardware constraints.
- Good working English (able to read datasheets and technical documents, and work with overseas partners where applicable).
Nice to have
- Technical background (former embedded/firmware engineer before moving into PM).
- Experience in IoT, industrial equipment, automotive, or medical device industries.
- Understanding of the NPI (New Product Introduction) process and experience working with manufacturing plants.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation package based on experience and qualifications
- Opportunity to build a strategic global data marketplace for robotics and AI training data from zero to one.
- Work in a high-speed technology environment backed by Vingroup and VinDynamics leadership.
- Competitive compensation package aligned with capability and business impact.
