Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Laser Welding Engineer will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining laser welding processes used in battery module and pack assembly. This role ensures welding quality, reliability, and efficiency to meet production, safety, and customer requirements. The Senior PM Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams (NPD/NPI/AME/Quality/Production) to implement new technologies, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve welding operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES

  • Develop, validate, and standardize laser welding processes with cross-functional team for battery assembly.
  • Have knowledge and maintain welding parameters, machine programs, and process control standards.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, process capability analysis, and weld quality evaluations to ensure weld designs meet product requirements and manufacturability.
  • Support equipment installation, commissioning, and qualification (Verification/Buyoff/EB/QB) of cell & step laser welding machines.
  • Troubleshoot welding issues (spatter, porosity, cracks, penetration, etc.) and implement Corrective Action & Preventive Action (CAPA).
  • Build & implement maintenance master plan, overhaul for cell & step laser welding machines.
  • Build and control spare part stock to ensure always available.
  • Develop work instructions, standard procedures, training materials for technicians.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for safety, productivity, and cost reduction in welding processes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Welding Engineering, or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in laser welding or related joining technologies (ultrasonic, resistance welding, etc.), preferably in battery manufacturing.
  • Basic knowledge of weld joint design, and material behavior (aluminum, copper, nickel, etc.).
  • Familiarity with quality inspection techniques (X-ray, ultrasonic, metallography, cross-section analysis).
  • Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of safety standards in welding and battery assembly.
  • On-site role in battery manufacturing facility.
  • Hands-on work with welding equipment and production lines.
  • Requires use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols.

Technical:

  • Basic PLC/HMI programing
  • Proficient in CAD/Solidwork, data analysis tools, & statistical methods (DOE, SPC, LEAN preferred).

Knowledge:

  • Having basic knowledge Welding, TPM, specially AM, PM Pillar.
  • Having background knowledge or experience in the field of battery manufacturing is an advantage.
