Job Description

Senior Full-Stack Engineer

Location: Vietnam-based candidates only, remote

Type: Full-time, Australian time zone

About Us

Automation Consulting Pty Ltd is a small, fast-growing Australian company specialising in AI and automation consulting, helping mid-to-large retailers and operationally complex businesses streamline how they work through smart, scalable technology solutions. We deliver strategy through to execution, not just recommendations, and we measure ourselves against the outcomes our clients actually get.

Role Overview

This is a full-time engagement with Automation Consulting, working Monday to Friday during Australian business hours. You will be allocated to work full-time on one of our client engagements, though your allocation may change over time based on the needs of the business. This is a remote position working alongside an Australian-led product and engineering team, contributing across web, mobile, TV, and backend surfaces.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React and Next.js are required for our web applications.
  • Mobile & TV (must-have): React Native, native Android (Kotlin/Java), and native iOS (Swift) are core requirements for this role, not nice-to-haves.
  • TV platforms (nice-to-have): Familiarity with Smart TV platforms such as Samsung Tizen, LG webOS (HTML5/JS), and Roku (BrightScript) is a plus.
  • Backend: Node.js API services, including real-time systems (socket-based architectures).
  • Databases: Extensive experience with both relational and NoSQL databases, especially PostgreSQL and MongoDB, with a clear, practical understanding of the trade-offs between them and when to use each.
  • Infrastructure: Strong hands-on AWS experience required. Working knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred).
  • Payments: Comfort working with both native mobile store billing (Apple StoreKit / Google Play Billing) and third-party payment gateway integration (e.g. Stripe, Airwallex), and understanding which applies where.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable backend services
  • Build and maintain responsive web, mobile, and TV-app interfaces
  • Bug fixes and production support across a multi-repo codebase
  • Help establish and continuously improve CI/CD, automated testing, and quality gates
  • Platform maintenance and feature enhancements aligned to the client's roadmap
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance, both within your allocated project and across the wider Automation Consulting team
  • Conduct code reviews and promote best practices
  • Collaborate with product and design teams

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of full-stack web application experience, or 5+ years in one or more of the key technologies above
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript across frontend and backend (Node.js, React, Next.js)
  • Must-have: React Native, native Android (Kotlin/Java), and Swift
  • Extensive experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, especially PostgreSQL and MongoDB
  • Hands-on AWS experience required; working knowledge of Terraform or another Infrastructure-as-Code tool expected
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
  • Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Proven ability to work effectively in distributed teams
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Our Culture

Automation Consulting runs a flat, inclusive team - no rigid hierarchy, no stay in your lane. Ideas are judged on merit, not seniority, and everyone is expected to speak up, challenge assumptions, and give and receive feedback openly. You'll have direct access to leadership and real influence over how things get built, not just what you're told to build. Fitting into this culture matters as much as the technical skills below.

Personal Attributes We're Looking For

  • Must-have: an AI-first and automation-first mindset - a genuine willingness to explore new and unfamiliar tools and figure out how to apply them to create real business value, not just technical novelty
  • Energetic, driven, and self-motivated - comfortable working with real autonomy in a fast-moving environment
  • A strong sense of ownership over outcomes, not just tasks - you follow through until something actually works
  • A genuine instinct to leave things better than you found them, whether that's code, process, or documentation
  • Disciplined - reliable, organised, and consistent even without close supervision
  • Receptive to feedback and comfortable giving it - you engage with critique constructively, not defensively
  • A natural fit for a flat-hierarchy, feedback-welcoming environment

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible working hours for work-life balance
  • Partnership approach (work with us, not for us)
  • Laptop provided for work purposes
  • Contractors are responsible for their own taxes and business expenses
  • Collaborative and nurturing environment
  • Knowledge sharing and skill enhancement opportunities
  • Respectful and inclusive team culture
  • Long-term opportunity with ongoing projects and growth potential

Application Process

  • Screening Interview with Kattie Recruitment
  • Technical Interview (Architecture Design) with Kattie Recruitment
  • Structured Communication & Architecture Walkthrough
  • Live Coding Session with Engineering Team
  • Cultural Fit Interview - Chat with the team

Due to the high volume of applications, we're only able to reach out to candidates who are the best fit for this role at this time. Thank you for your interest — we'll keep your profile for future opportunities.
