Responsibilities
The Product Owner will be responsible for the success of one or more online software products, with a particular focus on Vietnamese-speaking user segments and markets.
This is atrue Product Owner role, going beyond the scope of a traditional Business Analyst or Project Manager. The Product Owner is expected to:
- Own the product vision and strategy and continuously manage client stakeholders aligning expectations, clarifying priorities, and balancing client demands with product and technical realities.
- Prioritise and shape the product roadmap.
- Translate business and user needs into deliverable work for engineering.
- Be accountable for measurable product outcomes, not just documentation or timelines.
The role sits at the intersection of business, clients, and engineering, with clear ownership of product value and direction rather than just documentation or schedule management.
1. Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary product counterpart for client stakeholders, especially for products serving Vietnamese-speaking markets.
- Build strong, trust-based relationships with clients by understanding their business goals, constraints, and long-term priorities.
- Manage and align expectations with clients and internal stakeholders, including negotiating priorities, handling trade-offs, and pushing back when necessary to protect product integrity and technical feasibility.
- Facilitate regular discussions, reviews, and feedback loops with clients and internal teams to ensure continuous alignment.
2. Market & User Understanding
- Conduct or coordinate market research, competitive analysis, and customer interviews, particularly for the Vietnam market.
- Develop a deep understanding of end-user needs and behaviours, and integrate these insights into product strategy and feature design.
- Support go-to-market strategies, including positioning, value propositions, and key differentiators.
3. Product Strategy & Roadmap
- Define and refine the product vision, strategy, and measurable success metrics (e.g. adoption, engagement, conversion, revenue, operational efficiency).
- Build and maintain a clear, transparent product roadmap that balances client needs, business impact, technical constraints, and long-term scalability.
- Develop business cases and product proposals to justify major initiatives and improvements.
4. Backlog Management & Delivery
- Translate business and user needs into clear product requirements and user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria and edge cases.
- Prioritise and maintain the product backlog based on impact, urgency, technical dependencies, and strategic alignment.
- Collaborate closely with development, QA, UX/UI, and DevOps to ensure a shared understanding of requirements and smooth execution.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (planning, refinement, review, retrospective) and help the team continuously improve delivery processes.
5. Measurement & Continuous Improvement
- Define, monitor, and analyse product KPIs and success metrics, and use data to validate assumptions and guide decisions.
- Identify issues, risks, and gaps in user experience or business value, and propose actionable solutions.
- Initiate experiments or A/B tests where appropriate and iterate based on learnings.
Requirements
Experience
- 3 years of experience as a Product Owner or in a closely relatedproduct managementrole with clear accountability for product outcomes.
- Hands-on experience across multiple stages of the product lifecycle (discovery, delivery, launch, and iteration).
- Profiles that are purely documentation-focused Business Analysts or solely schedule-focused Project Managers, without tangible product ownership, will not be a strong fit.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong product sense with the ability to balance business goals, user experience, and technical constraints.
- Solid experience in requirements definition, user story writing, and backlog prioritisation.
- Comfortable working with data and metrics (funnels, cohorts, KPIs) to support product decisions.
- Experience in market research, go-to-market planning, or business case development is a strong advantage, particularly involving Vietnam or Southeast Asian markets.
- Consulting, business strategy, or business analysis background is a plus, provided there is demonstrated product ownership.
Communication & Collaboration
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to challenge assumptions and say no when necessary while maintaining strong relationships.
- Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (engineering, QA, UX, operations, business).
- Comfortable operating in environments with evolving or ambiguous priorities.
Language
- Proficiency inVietnameseandEnglish(spoken and written) to engage effectively with regional stakeholders and Vietnamese-speaking clients/users.
Mindset
- Structured, logical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
- High ownership mindset, comfortable being accountable for results rather than just tasks.
- Calm, curious, and collaborative; asks clarifying questions and invests time to fully understand the problem before driving solutions.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with large-scale online platforms, B2B/B2B2C systems, or high-availability transactional systems.
- Basic technical understanding of modern software architecture (e.g. APIs, microservices, monitoring, performance) sufficient to discuss trade-offs with engineers.
- Experience working with regional or distributed teams.
