Job Purpose:
The Category Lead – Sustainable Production is responsible for defining and executing category strategies for utilities, renewable energy, biomass‑based thermal energy, and the commercialisation of production by‑products and material waste streams. The role owns both strategy development and end‑to‑end execution for biomass thermal energy sourcing (e.g. biomass steam solutions), as well as the sale of brewing by‑products (e.g. spent grain, spent yeast) and recyclable material waste (e.g. aluminium, cullet, scrap), ensuring regulatory compliance, value maximisation, and alignment with sustainability objectives.
Acting as a senior individual contributor, the role partners closely with Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Sustainability teams to deliver compliant, cost‑effective, and future‑ready sourcing and monetisation solutions, aligned with Regional and Global procurement frameworks.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1.Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
- Define and execute category strategies for utilities and sustainable production, including biomass‑based thermal energy solutions (e.g. biomass steam), Direct Power Purchase Agreements (DPPA), and Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs).
- Own the sourcing strategy and execution for biomass thermal energy, including market assessment, sourcing models, supplier selection, contracting approach, and long‑term supply sustainability.
- Own the strategy and execution for the sale of brewing by‑products, including spent grain and spent yeast, ensuring regulatory compliance, supply continuity, and optimal commercial outcomes.
- Define, implement, and continuously improve the commercial strategy for material waste streams, including aluminium, cullet, scrap, and other recyclable materials.
- Lead the full end‑to‑end process for biomass energy sourcing and by‑product/waste sales, from strategy definition through contracting, execution, and value optimisation.
- Monitor market dynamics, regulatory developments, and circularity opportunities to maximise value recovery and support sustainability and carbon reduction objectives.
- Embed total cost of ownership (TCO), risk management, and sustainability considerations into all sourcing and monetisation decisions.
2.Supplier & Contract Management
- Structure, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements for utilities, biomass thermal energy, renewable electricity, by‑product sales, and material waste streams.
- Define and manage pricing mechanisms, volume commitments, quality specifications, service levels, logistics responsibilities, and compliance requirements within contracts.
- Monitor supplier performance against agreed commercial, operational, and compliance criteria, and drive corrective actions where required.
- Maintain effective working relationships with key suppliers to ensure supply continuity, performance improvement, and innovation.
- Ensure all contracts and sourcing activities comply with Heineken procurement policies, approval workflows, and governance requirements.
3.Sustainability & Energy Governance
- Act as the procurement focal point for biomass thermal energy and renewable energy sourcing, including physical and financial PPAs, self‑generation solutions, and EACs.
- Partner with Sustainability, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to ensure energy sourcing and monetisation activities support carbon reduction, circularity, and Scope 3 emissions targets.
- Support the implementation of governance and reporting frameworks related to biomass energy, renewable electricity, by‑products, and waste streams, ensuring transparency, auditability, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure alignment with local regulatory requirements while adhering to Regional and Global sustainability standards and frameworks.
4.Stakeholder Engagement & Governance
- Partner with internal stakeholders (Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, Legal, Tax, P&CI) to align energy sourcing and monetisation strategies with operational and business requirements.
- Provide clear procurement guidance and constructive challenge to ensure value creation, compliance, and risk mitigation.
- Ensure all procurement and sales activities are conducted in line with Heineken's Business Code of Conduct and internal policies.
- Act as a trusted procurement advisor within assigned categories and initiatives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CIPS, CPSM) are preferred
- 7+ years of progressive experience in procurement and particularly in business services category (Sustainability, HR, D&T, Facility, Utilities, Finance,…)
- Proven experience in managing renewable energy sourcing (PPAs, EACs) and sustainability-driven procurement strategies.
- Background in FMCG or similar industries preferred, with strong understanding of cost optimization and compliance.
- Expertise in strategic sourcing and category management across diverse service categories.
- Strong knowledge of renewable energy procurement, sustainability compliance, and carbon reduction initiatives.
- Strong problem-solving and storytelling skills to convert insights into actionable strategies.
- Proven track record in managing high volume, fragmented value contracts and driving cost optimization.
- Strong proficiency in both spoken and written English
