JOB OVERVIEW
Working in a team environment identifies, evaluates, and works to resolve manufacturing issues in the daily production processes, provides some leadership in the optimization and troubleshooting of existing processes.
Participates in engineering activities leading towards the design and implementation of process improvements and the technical transfer of new products from research and development to product commercialization.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical knowledge to continuous improvement efforts aimed at increasing productivity and yields.
- Assist in the identification of new materials, methods, and tools in order to improve current processes and/or equipment.
- Develop understanding of production processes to identify the key process parameters related to yield and product performance.
- Support the execution of studies to stabilize, characterize, and optimize key process parameters.
- Assist in the maintenance and support of all Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Statistical Quality Control (SQC) tools.
- Support Manufacturing in efforts to troubleshoot the manufacturing processes on a daily basis.
- Develop, maintain, and update manufacturing documentation with input from appropriate functions.
- Assist Manufacturing in the training of operators, technicians, and supervisors as needed.
- Work with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) as needed to ensure that equipment and processes comply with applicable codes and regulations.
- Work with R&D to ensure process specifications, procedures, and controls related to new products are well documented and communicated before launch.
- Provide input to R&D regarding processing options during the development of new products – Design for Manufacturability (DFM.)
- Work to improve volume process capabilities in anticipation of new product requirements.
- Provide process performance input during the specification of new capital equipment.
- Provide input as to the process control requirements for new capital equipment.
- Provide technical support during the commissioning and debugging of new equipment.
- Work with maintenance and Manufacturing to define appropriate spare parts inventories and PM schedules.
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day guidance and direction to Process Area Technicians and Engineering Technicians.
- Assist with the training and mentoring of engineering technicians.
- Create and routinely present reports and data to Senior Management based on work and findings
- Adheres to safety guidelines including improvements
- Works towards improvements for process efficiencies
- Other duties as assigned
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- Ability to communicate fluently in English, both written and verbal
- Ability to act independently
- Ability to make decisions independently
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products
- Good knowledge of statistical tools.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, etc.
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing environments and priorities and function without rigid organizational boundaries.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- BS in Engineering or relevant experience.
- From 3 years of experience demonstrating skills in the above duties.
- Previous experience with a manufacturing environment
- Previous experience with plastic processing preferred
- Project management experience preferred
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred
