Position Summary

The Box Build Process Engineer is responsible for developing and optimizing the assembly processes for box builds, which include the integration of PCBAs, cable harnesses, mechanical enclosures, power supplies, and other subassemblies. The engineer ensures the box build assembly meets quality, cost, and delivery targets while supporting lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.

Key Skills & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement efficient manufacturing processes for box build assemblies, including mechanical and electrical integration.
  • Create process documentation such as assembly instructions, process flow charts, and visual aids.
  • Define and set up workstations, tools, fixtures, and equipment for manual and semi-automated assembly.
  • Ensure compliance with design specifications, BOMs, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by developing pilot builds and scaling up to full production.
  • Perform time studies, line balancing, and capacity planning for box build operations.
  • Troubleshoot assembly issues and work cross-functionally with design, quality, and supply chain teams to implement solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with ESD, IPC, safety, and quality standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to reduce cost, improve quality, and increase throughput.
  • Train assembly operators and technicians on processes and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 25 years of experience in box build assembly, electro-mechanical integration, or contract manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical assembly, cabling, wiring, and PCB integration.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and assembly instructions.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, 5S, and Six Sigma principles.
  • Proficient in MS Office and ERP/MRP systems; experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and team collaboration skills.
  • IPC-A-610 / IPC-A-620
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing Certification
  • OSHA or safety training certification
