Seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Packaging Engineer to design, develop, test, and implement packaging solutions for our products. This role will play a key part in ensuring packaging integrity, cost efficiency, compliance, and sustainability while supporting manufacturing, logistics, and product safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Development:
- Develop and optimize packaging solutions for new and existing products, considering factors such as product protection, cost, ergonomics, and sustainability.
Material Selection:
- Evaluate and select appropriate materials (e.g., corrugated board, plastics, foams, etc.) based on performance, cost, recyclability, and compatibility with the product.
Testing and Validation:
- Conduct and oversee package testing (e.g., drop test, vibration, compression, thermal aging) to validate performance per industry standards (e.g., ISTA, ASTM).
Documentation & Specifications:
- Create and maintain detailed packaging specifications, CAD drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.
Cost Optimization:
- Identify opportunities to reduce packaging costs while maintaining product protection and compliance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with R&D, production, procurement, logistics, quality, and suppliers to implement packaging solutions that meet overall business objectives.
Sustainability Initiatives:
- Support company efforts toward eco-friendly packaging design and waste reduction.
Supplier Coordination:
- Engage with packaging vendors for prototyping, tooling, and material sourcing. Evaluate vendor capabilities and lead-time.
Regulatory & Compliance:
- Ensure all packaging meets industry, customer, and regulatory standards (e.g., RoHS, REACH, food safety, export compliance
Preferred Skills (Optional):
- Experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
- Experience with international packaging compliance standards.
- Familiarity with barcode labeling, pallet configuration, and shipping container optimization.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 25 years of experience in packaging design and development (entry-level may be accepted with internship or co-op experience).
- Familiarity with packaging design software (e.g., ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Understanding of packaging testing methodologies and standards (e.g., ISTA, ASTM).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Experience with packaging for various product types: electronics, consumer goods, medical, or industrial equipment is a plus.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Knowledge of sustainable packaging trends and material lifecycle impact is advantageous.
