Job Description: 3D Technical Modeler / OpenUSD 3D Artist

  • Position

3D Technical Modeler / OpenUSD 3D Artist

  • Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating accurate 3D models of industrial facilities, equipment, and production lines based on technical drawings, CAD/DWG/PDF files, reference images, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities Include

Create 3D models of factories, auxiliary buildings, production lines, industrial machinery, and equipment.

Interpret 2D technical drawings, including floor plans, elevations, sections, structural drawings, and equipment layout drawings.

Build models with accurate dimensions, scale, elevation, and structure based on CAD/DWG/PDF drawings.

Organize model hierarchies according to project standards (e.g., building, outer wall, inner wall, pillar, ceiling, floor, door, window, equipment, conveyor, machine parts).

Separate static and dynamic components to support animation and motion simulation.

Set correct pivot points for objects, groups, moving components, and machine assemblies.

Apply physically based rendering (PBR) materials such as metal, rubber, glass, concrete, panels, plastic, flooring, walls, doors, and windows.

Export models to USD/OpenUSD format following project standards.

Validate exported models in NVIDIA Omniverse USD Composer, including hierarchy, transforms, pivots, material paths, bounding boxes, visibility, scale, and layer structure.

Optimize models to ensure clean topology, lightweight performance, and suitability for real-time visualization and virtual factory applications.

Revise models based on feedback from clients or project managers.

Prepare screenshots, preview videos, and progress reports when required.

Requirements

  • Required Qualifications

Experience with professional 3D modeling software such as Blender, 3ds Max, or equivalent.

Ability to read and interpret 2D technical drawings (DWG, DXF, PDF, CAD).

Solid understanding of scale, units, dimensions, elevations, sections, side views, top views, and layout drawings.

Ability to create dimensionally accurate models based on engineering drawings.

Experience organizing objects, naming conventions, and managing collections/hierarchies.

Good understanding of pivots, transforms, origins, and parent-child hierarchies.

Ability to distinguish between static and movable machine components.

Basic knowledge of material assignment, UV mapping, and material editing.

Strong model optimization skills, including clean mesh topology, polygon reduction, removal of unnecessary objects, and elimination of duplicate materials or layers.

Ability to follow technical guidelines and revise models through multiple review iterations.

Strong attention to detail and a technical mindset.

  • Preferred Qualifications

Experience using NVIDIA Omniverse USD Composer.

Knowledge of USD/OpenUSD workflows.

Experience exporting USD files from 3D software and validating them in USD Composer.

Inconsistent scale or units

Experience modeling factories, manufacturing equipment, conveyors, jigs, industrial robots, machine frames, cylinders, linear stages, and linkage arms.

Basic animation or kinematics experience for movable machine components.

Ability to use AutoCAD to inspect drawings, manage layers, and extract data from DWG/DXF files.

Proficiency in Korean or technical English is an advantage.

  • Tools & Technologies

Candidates should have experience with, or be willing to work with, the following tools:

Blender

Autodesk 3ds Max

NVIDIA Omniverse USD Composer

AutoCAD or equivalent DWG/DXF editing software

USD/OpenUSD workflow

Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or similar tools for basic texture and logo editing (preferred)

Microsoft Excel, Notion, or Google Sheets for progress tracking and reporting

  • Project Responsibilities

Receive technical drawings, project guidelines, and requirements from the Project Manager or Bridge System Engineer (BrSE).

Analyze engineering drawings before modeling.

Identify components that should be separated for hierarchy organization, material assignment, and animation.

Build models with accurate dimensions, geometry, and structure.

Ensure models are clean, free of mesh or transform issues, and contain no unnecessary objects or materials.

Follow project naming conventions for all objects.

Export and validate USD files before delivery.

Resolve issues identified during internal QA or client reviews.

Provide daily or weekly progress updates as required.

  • Candidate Evaluation Criteria

The Ideal Candidate Should Be Able To

Interpret engineering drawings and reconstruct accurate 3D models from 2D documentation.

Prioritize dimensional accuracy rather than visual appearance alone.

Organize models so they can be efficiently reused and maintained in USD Composer.

Structure models logically instead of merging everything into a single mesh.

Demonstrate strong technical thinking when modeling machinery, equipment, and moving components.

Validate exported USD files rather than simply delivering 3D models.

Work carefully and efficiently through multiple review and revision cycles.

  • Portfolio Requirements

Applicants should submit a portfolio containing at least one of the following:

Industrial facilities, factories, or engineering architectural models.

Manufacturing equipment, conveyors, jigs, robots, or industrial production line models.

Hard-surface modeling projects with well-organized components.

Projects created using Blender, 3ds Max, USD Composer, or comparable workflows.

Models demonstrating proper hierarchy, materials, pivot setup, or basic animation.

Portfolios including wireframe images, viewport screenshots, file structure examples, or preview videos will be given preference.
