Job Summary
The DFM Engineer at Jabil, Inc. will play a critical role in optimizing product designs for manufacturability. This position involves collaborating with design and NPI teams to ensure cost-effective and efficient production processes for a wide range of electronic products.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews on new product introductions (NPIs) and existing products.
- Provide detailed feedback and recommendations to design engineers on design improvements to enhance manufacturability, reduce cost, and improve quality.
- Analyze product designs for potential manufacturing issues, such as material selection, component placement, soldering challenges, and assembly sequences.
- Develop and implement DFM guidelines, best practices, and standard operating procedures across various product lines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, process engineering, supply chain, and quality to resolve DFM-related issues.
- Participate in design reviews, FMEAs (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and other relevant product development activities.
- Evaluate and recommend alternative manufacturing processes, materials, and components to optimize cost and production efficiency.
- Support the implementation of automated manufacturing processes and equipment by providing DFM input.
- Generate and present DFM reports, analyses, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Stay current with industry trends, new manufacturing technologies, and DFM best practices.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) or a similar role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in electronics manufacturing services (EMS).
- Strong understanding of various manufacturing processes, including PCBA assembly (SMT, thru-hole), Conformal Coating, Depanelling methodologies.
- Basic Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and 2D CAD tools.
- Experience with DFM analysis tools and methodologies.
- Knowledge of IPC standards for electronic assembly (e.g., IPC-A-610, IPC-7351).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and cross-functional team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems is a plus.
