Responsibilities

The Materials Manager oversees procurement, inventory, warehousing, and distribution to ensure efficient material flow from suppliers to production and customer delivery. This role drives cost savings, optimizes inventory, and supports operational goals.

Key Responsibilities

Materials & Supply Chain Management

  • Manage the full materials lifecycle for assigned projects: ordering, planning, inventory control, warehousing, and shipment.
  • Develop and execute material procurement plans aligned with production schedules and project timelines.
  • Coordinate closely with Buyers, Planners, Warehouse, and Import/Export teams to ensure material availability.
  • Monitor material usage and inventory levels to prevent shortages or excess stock.
  • Mitigate supply risks and ensure continuity of supply for critical materials.

Inventory Control & Warehouse Management

  • Ensure accurate inventory records and transactions within the ERP system (Oracle).
  • Control warehouse operations including receiving, storage, issuing, and shipping.
  • Implement inventory control practices such as cycle counting and reconciliation.
  • Ensure materials are properly stored and handled according to quality and safety standards.

Project Coordination

  • Take full ownership of materials management for each assigned customer project.
  • Participate in project planning and execution to ensure materials readiness at every stage.
  • Support on-time shipment and customer delivery commitments.

Team Leadership

  • Manage and coordinate a materials team (typically 3+ members depending on project scale).
  • Allocate tasks effectively across planning, buying, warehouse, and logistics functions.
  • Coach, guide, and monitor team performance to meet project and departmental objectives.

Performance & Continuous Improvement

  • Track and report key materials KPIs such as inventory accuracy, on-time material availability, and supplier performance.
  • Identify inefficiencies and propose improvements to materials planning and inventory processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within materials and supply chain operations.

Systems & Compliance

  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity within Oracle ERP.
  • Comply with company policies, internal controls, and relevant regulations.
  • Work effectively in a multicultural manufacturing environment with expatriates from various nationalities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in materials management within manufacturing environments.
  • At least 5 years in a Materials Manager or equivalent leadership role.
  • Strong background in mechanical manufacturing, metal parts, or assembly plants.
  • Experience managing materials for project-based or customer-specific manufacturing is highly preferred.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Strong proficiency in ERP systems, especially Oracle.
  • Solid understanding of materials planning, inventory control, and warehouse operations.
  • Excellent coordination and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Fluent English communication skills (working with foreign managers and global customers).
