Are you an experienced software engineering or technical leader who enjoys helping others develop their technical capability

We're looking for a Manager – Technical Development & Engineering Capability to join a large enterprise organisation and lead the technical uplift of learning programs across its technology workforce.

Sitting within the Learning & Development team, this isn't a traditional L&D role. We're looking for someone who brings genuine technical credibility, understands how modern engineering teams operate and can translate that knowledge into practical, relevant learning experiences.

The role

You'll act as the technical expert within the team, working closely with engineering leaders, SMEs and senior technology stakeholders to understand capability gaps and ensure the organisation's technical curriculum keeps pace with its evolving technology environment.

You'll have two direct reports responsible for facilitating training programs, while you'll provide the technical leadership, curriculum direction and expertise behind what is being delivered.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the technical uplift of engineering learning programs and curricula
• Identifying technical capability and skills gaps across engineering teams
• Partnering with engineering leaders and SMEs to understand current and future capability requirements
• Developing practical technical learning assets, including coding exercises, assessments, simulations and certification pathways
• Ensuring learning programs reflect modern engineering practices including Cloud, DevOps, CI/CD and Agile
• Advising on technical learning frameworks, pathways and capability strategies
• Managing and mentoring two training facilitators
• Working with senior stakeholders to align capability initiatives with broader technology priorities
• Overseeing the quality and effectiveness of technical learning programs
• Using learner feedback, data and analytics to continuously improve programs
• Supporting the optimisation of learning platforms and technology

What we're looking for:

The key to this role is technical credibility.

You'll ideally come from a software development, engineering or similarly technical background and have a strong understanding of how engineering teams operate within complex organisations.

We're looking for:

• A strong background in software development or engineering
• Hands-on coding knowledge and the ability to develop technical learning exercises and assessments
• Strong understanding of Cloud, DevOps, CI/CD, Agile and modern software engineering practices
• Experience within complex enterprise technology environments
• Exposure to technical training, engineering enablement, capability development or technical learning programs
• Strong stakeholder management and consulting skills
• Confidence engaging with senior engineering and technology leaders
• Experience managing programs or large-scale capability initiatives
• Ideally, a technical certification across AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud
• Exposure to LMS platforms, learning technologies or authoring tools would be advantageous
