Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

Manage the operation and maintenance of the Airport's electrical utilities infrastructure, including electrical distribution networks, standby power generation, and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, to ensure the continuous, safe, and reliable provision of electrical power in support of safety-critical and mission-essential airport operations.

The role operates in a 24/7, shift-based environment, planning and executing maintenance and operational activities to minimise downtime, maintain system availability and resilience, and support terminal, airside, and landside infrastructure through assured power supply and effective contingency response. The role ensures full compliance with applicable national electrical codes, ICAO-aligned aerodrome safety requirements, licensing and certification obligations, and the airport's Safety Management System (SMS), maintaining a safe and resilient operating environment..

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Electrical Utilities Operations & System Availability

  1. Manage the day-to-day operations of Airport's electrical utilities, including distribution networks, substations, standby generators and UPS systems across a 24/7 shift environment.
  2. Ensure a safe and stable power supply for safety-critical airport operations, with clear accountability for outages, recovery and operational continuity
  3. Lead the team for response to power-related incidents and failures, which includes coordinating escalation and restoration efforts to minimize overall disruption to airport operations
  4. Review all outages and incidents to identify any recurring issues, working closely with teams to improve overall system reliability
  5. Develop and execute a strategy for managing the airport's entire electrical system, ensuring seamless synchronization, optimal safety, and maximum efficiency.

Maintenance, Safety and Regulatory Compliance

  1. Plan and oversee maintenance activities for electrical utilities assets, ensuring that the systems are safe, stable and reliable for effective, long-term operations
  2. Ensure full compliance with applicable national electrical codes, ICAO-aligned aerodrome safety requirements, licensing and certification obligations, and the airport's Safety Management System (SMS).
  3. Maintain readiness for audits and inspections from regulatory authorities, ensuring that any findings are addressed timely and closed
  4. Monitor safety and compliance performance trends and implement continuous improvement actions to strengthen risk management and safety outcomes.

People Management & Team Development

  1. Manage and develop the electrical power and supply team, ensuring adequate shift coverage, capability and authorization for continuity of operations in the 24/7 airport operating environment.
  2. Manage contracts and service providers, where necessary, that are supporting electrical utilities operations, ensuring that any work carried out is done safely and as per required standards
  3. Organize day-to-day work practices across shifts and handovers, making adjustments to staffing or work arrangements where necessary.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications & Work Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred. Candidates with substantial relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
  • 5-8 years of hands-on experience in electrical utilities operations, maintenance or engineering, preferably in large-scale infrastructure projects or commercial developments.
  • Prior experience leading or supervising a small team or shift is preferred.
  • Practical experience managing electrical distribution systems, substations, standby generators and UPS systems in a 24/7 operating environment.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, with audits, inspections and compliance with electrical safety and licensing requirements.

Certifications & Licenses:

  • Valid electrical practicing certificate or equivalent professional authorization that is recognized
  • Appropriate high-voltage or low-voltage switching and isolation authorization, in accordance to national electrical safety requirements
  • Certification or training in electrical safety
