CurlyBlue is a creative technology studio focused on immersive digital experiences. Based in Ho Chi Minh City, we collaborate with professionals in North America to develop innovative projects at the forefront of Virtual Reality and interactive media.
Our team is currently working on a new VR multiplayer experience built in Unity for Meta Quest platforms, combining engaging gameplay with expressive characters and environments.
2. Job Summary
The Level Designer imagines, plans, and builds immersive environments that showcase Squido's game mechanics and universe. By placing fun, accessibility, and VR comfort at the heart of their process, they create dynamic and replayable experiences. Acting as a vital bridge between design and technology, the Level Designer uses community feedback and gameplay data to constantly iterate, ensuring a balanced pace and progression.
3. Responsibilities:
Gameplay & Level Design
- Design, balance, and iterate on game mechanics in collaboration with the design team.
- Create dynamic and replayable levels tailored to various game concepts and required difficulty levels.
- Prototype and polish immersive environments within Unity, specifically optimized for VR and Meta Horizon.
Collaboration & Creation
- Collaborate with artists, developers, animators, programmers, and audio designers to bring features, events, and new gameplay interactions to life.
- Work closely with the art team to ensure visual consistency while respecting technical performance constraints.
Experimentation & Community
- Interact with players on Discord and within the game's social spaces to understand their expectations.
- Observe emerging player trends and behaviors to translate them into innovative content and playable experiences.
Testing, QA & Continuous Improvement
- Actively participate in playtests, identify bugs, and propose necessary adjustments.
- Use data (analytics) and player feedback to refine levels, progression, and game pacing.
- Actively contribute to an open, creative team culture based on rapid iteration.
4. Requirements:
Technical Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in Unity applied to level design or game design.
- Strong understanding of complex gameplay systems and player psychology.
- Ability to create playable mockups (greyboxing) and iterate based on UX feedback.
Professional Skills:
- Creative, collaborative, and solution-oriented mindset.
- Autonomy, curiosity, and a constant desire to learn within an evolving technological environment.
- Passion for video games and emerging experiences (VR).
- Experience in VR and/or multiplayer games.
- Highly advanced AI conceptualization & reverse engineering of top Game Loops.
- Creating addictive gaming loops that satisfy the player.
Assets (Nice-to-Have):
- Basic skills in C# programming and notions of optimization within Unity.
