The Legal Counsel & Data Privacy role manages legal, privacy, and compliance matters across Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region from Ho Chi Minh City. As a member of the global Office of General Counsel (OGC) and Data Privacy Office (DPO), the position advises business leaders, supports international projects, and provides practical solutions to complex legal and commercial matters.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the global Office of General Counsel and Data Privacy Office, reporting directly to the associate general counsel
- Manage day-to-day legal, data privacy, and compliance matters across Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region
- Provide legal and privacy support to offices across the Asia-Pacific region while collaborating with Office of General Counsel and Data Privacy Office teams in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America on international projects
- Advise business leaders on data privacy and commercial law matters, providing practical and commercially focused solutions to complex legal and business challenges
- Act as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders and external parties, including clients and regulatory authorities, regarding audit and privacy-related enquiries and escalations in Vietnam
- Manage and coordinate daily global data privacy exceptions, including:
- Responding to privacy-related issues and requests
- Conducting investigations and assessments
- Maintaining logs and documentation
- Preparing reports and status updates
- Coordinating notifications and communications
- Supporting privacy awareness and training activities
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in private practice and/or an in-house role involving corporate law and data privacy
- Bachelor of Laws degree or higher from a recognised institution in Vietnam
- Admission to the Vietnamese Bar is preferred
- Fluency in spoken and written English and Vietnamese
- Solid understanding of privacy law in Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region, international data privacy law, and its practical application across complex systems
- Certified Information Privacy Professional certification would be an advantage
- Experience in corporate law, commercial contracts, employment law, and corporate compliance is preferred
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship management, and communication skills
- Understanding of cultural differences and varied ways of working
