APU American International Schools is a group of independent, coeducational university preparatory day schools with three campuses and boarding facilities located in Ho Chi Minh City and Nang. The school follows an American curriculum model, offering AP college credit courses, English language development programs, College Bridge Program (CBP), and advanced college concurrent enrollment opportunities. The schools are part of APU Educational Development Group, which also operates a K-12 bilingual school and The American University of Vietnam. The K-12 school is currently accredited by Cognia and is a CIS member.
Role Description
We are seeking an experienced K-12 administrator responsible for the operations of a school located in Danang, including teaching and learning, student well-being, and managing teaching staff. Additionally, ability to take a lead role with regards to demonstrating school continuous improvement. For this role, it is a legal requirement to hold either a degree in education or an active teaching/administrative license. Role starts in August 2025.
Teaching and Learning
- Plan meaningful professional development based on observation data, surveyance and student needs.
- Oversee the implementation and assessment cycle of the curriculum, through continuous review of Scope and Sequence documentation, course offering options, unit and weekly lesson plans by teaching staff.
- Working collaboratively with staff and leadership to facilitate improvement in curriculum, instruction and assessment.
- Leading teachers in designing integrated curriculum units of inquiry, developing performancebased assessments and instruction that supports deep understanding of content, and achievement of standards and benchmarks using the Backward Design Model.
- Working collaboratively with staff to enhance processes of assessment and monitoring of student information to improve instruction.
Operations
- Organize timely resource planning for teaching and learning, such as student textbooks, teaching resources and online subscriptions.
- Oversee the management of teaching resources such a library materials, math, science and resources and teacher guides
- Inform building maintenance of any building issues that need attention
Student Well-being
- Establish review cycle for school protocols that relate to follow-through on parent and teacher concerns about students
- Experience extending schoolwide child safeguarding protocols
- Monitor student progress through class teachers and reporting documents
- Address issues section-wide, such as bullying and inappropriate language
- Routinely inspect the canteen during lunches for food quality, staff control, and student behavior
Managing Staff
- Able to guide a team to create optimized K12 master schedules
- Observe staff regularly; keep detailed observation notes and provide staff with supportive feedback
- Follow through with written warnings for staff who are not meeting the expectations of their position.
- Teacher observations
- Support staff by providing clear expectations, deadlines for tasks, agendas for meetings and feedback on performance
School Continuous Improvement
- Support the implementation and revision cycles of guidelines, practices and documentation of school continuous improvement cycles.
Qualifications and Experience
- An aptitude for building and maintaining positive relationships with students, educators, parents and school ownership
- Experience with curriculum development and collaboration across divisions and within an allschool context
- A demonstrated ability in leading groups and implementing curricular initiatives within a Professional Learning Community
- Knowledgeable about UbD unit development, curriculum mapping, and effective assessment practices
- The capacity to organize and deliver effective presentations to diverse audiences
- An ability to work with diverse audiences and build consensus to support the APU mission and core beliefs
- Superior organizational strategies and an aptitude for solving problems
- Effective communication skills utilizing a variety of mediums and techniques
- Proven successful experience in a leadership role
- A strong understanding of the Advance Placement (AP) course structure.
- Experience with a Learning Support team.
- Strong skills in analyzing data to support teaching and learning, Such as Measures of Academic Progress or MAP Testing.
