Job Purpose
The Java Professional Developer is responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting secure, scalable, and high-quality business applications. The role works closely with business users, IT teams, vendors, and technology partners to translate requirements into effective technical solutions while ensuring compliance with SDLC, security, architecture, and operational standards.
Principal Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications, services, APIs, and integration components in line with business and technical requirements.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications, solution designs, development tasks, and effort estimates.
- Develop and enhance backend services using Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, microservices, ORM frameworks, and related enterprise technologies.
- Support application troubleshooting, root cause analysis, bug fixing, incident resolution, and production support within agreed service levels.
- Write clean, maintainable, secure, and well-documented code following coding standards, secure development practices, and peer review requirements.
- Prepare and execute unit tests, integration tests, and technical test cases to ensure application quality, stability, and performance.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to review coding quality, validate technical deliverables, and ensure alignment with architecture and SDLC standards.
- Participate in release preparation, deployment support, change management, and post-release verification for application enhancements and fixes.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve application performance, security, maintainability, automation, and developer productivity.
Qualifications, Experience And Technical Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on software development experience, with strong practical experience in Java application development.
- Backend Development: Strong experience with Core Java, Java 8 or later, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data/JPA, Hibernate, RESTful API design, service-oriented architecture, and microservices.
- Database: Experience with relational databases such as MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or DB2, including SQL query development, database design awareness, optimization, stored procedures, transaction management, and data integrity controls.
- Frontend / Web Technologies: Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Angular, ReactJS, VueJS, Bootstrap, or similar frameworks is an advantage.
- DevSecOps and Engineering Tools: Experience with Git or equivalent source control, CI/CD pipelines, Maven or Gradle, automated build and deployment practices, code quality tools, and DevOps practices.
- Testing and Quality: Experience with unit testing, integration testing, JUnit, Mockito or equivalent testing frameworks, code review, static code analysis, SonarQube, secure coding practices, and defect management.
- Application Operations: Practical experience in incident troubleshooting, log analysis, performance monitoring, release support, and production readiness validation.
- Security and Compliance: Understanding of secure design, authentication and authorization concepts, data protection awareness, vulnerability remediation, and compliance-oriented documentation.
- Experience in insurance, banking, financial services, or other regulated industries is a plus.
