The role focuses on delivering robust, safe, and high-efficiency hardware solutions that meet automotive standards and support next-generation EV propulsion systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. High-Voltage Hardware Design

  • Lead the design and architecture of high-voltage power electronics hardware for e-motor drive systems (400V800V+ EV platforms).
  • Design and optimize circuits such as:
    • Inverter power stage (IGBT/SiC MOSFET)
    • Gate driver circuitry
    • DC-link capacitor and busbar layout
    • Current/voltage sensing circuits
    • HV contactors, pre-charge, discharge path
    • EMI/EMC filtering, protection circuits (OCP, OVP, OTP)
  • Ensure compliance with derating guidelines for HV components (semiconductors, capacitors, inductors, connectors, insulation components).
2. Component Selection & Technical Validation

  • Select semiconductor devices, gate drivers, PCB materials, HV connectors and insulation components.
  • Analyse power losses, switching behavior, thermal derating, and performance under automotive environments.
  • Support thermal design, cooling strategies, and packaging for power modules.

3. Simulation & Analysis

  • Perform circuit simulation and system modeling using tools such as:
    • SPICE, LTspice, PLECS, PSIM, Simulink.
  • Conduct worst-case analysis, derating analysis, fault modeling, and transient behavior studies.
  • Support FEA thermal/electrical analysis with CAE teams.
4. Prototyping, Testing & Validation

  • Lead prototype build, bring-up, and debugging of high-voltage hardware.
  • Define and execute DV/PV test plans for inverter and e-motor hardware.
  • Support testing in HV labs for switching performance, efficiency mapping, isolation testing, EMC, and environmental validation.
  • Analyze failures (root cause analysis) and implement corrective actions.

5. Standards, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure hardware meets relevant automotive standards:
    • ISO 26262 (functional safety)
    • ISO 21448 (SOTIF where applicable)
    • LV123 / LV148 / ECE R100 for HV systems
    • EMC requirements per CISPR 25, ISO 7637, ISO 11452
  • Participate in FMEA/DFMEA, safety goals allocation, and hardware safety mechanism definition.
6. Collaboration & Technical Leadership

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (E-Motor, Power Electronics, Mechanical, Thermal, Software, Control).
  • Guide junior engineers on HV hardware design.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and evaluate their technical proposals and component capabilities.
  • Provide design reviews, documentation, and technical reports.

Requirements Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Mechatronics, or related fields.
