About Earth Venture Capital
Earth Venture Capital invests in deep tech that makes the world more efficientwithout compromising scale or returns. We back technologies that detect inefficiencies in the physical world and convert those insights into systems that optimize energy and industrial operations, delivering real climate impact and strong financial outcomes.
Role Summary
Earth Venture Capital is hiring a Head of Science to lead our research strategy and scientific thought leadershipshaping how Earth VC forms conviction, defines investment theses, and communicates science-driven insights to founders, partners, and the broader ecosystem.
You will sit at the intersection of science, industry, and venture: building a clear research agenda across energy and industrial deep tech, translating evidence into sharp narratives, and elevating Earth VC's credibility in the ecosystem. Technical due diligence and portfolio support are importantbut they serve the research agenda, not the other way around.
Core Responsibility
1) Research Strategy & Thought Leadership
- Own Earth VC's science-led research agenda across energy, manufacturing, and industrial deep tech.
- Identify high-leverage questions and build conviction: technology landscapes, value chains, bottlenecks, cost curves, and scale-up pathways.
- Produce decision-ready outputs: thematic theses, deep dives, investment narratives, and internal research briefs that convert science into investable insight.
- Represent Earth VC externally through credible scientific storytelling: curated briefings, roundtables, conference participation, and ecosystem positioning.
2) Ecosystem & Expert Network
- Build and maintain strong relationships with universities, labs, professors, and domain experts in energy and manufacturing.
- Create repeatable expert engagement loops (expert panels, advisory circles, rapid-response expert calls).
- Use the network to surface early signals, validate claims, and strengthen Earth VC's research outputs and investment conviction.
3) Technical Due Diligence
- Support investment decisions with structured technical diligence when needed: define hypotheses, assess validation data, identify red flags, and propose de-risk plans.
- Evaluate TRL, manufacturability, reliability, safety/compliance, and IP defensibility (working with external specialists when appropriate).
- Deliver crisp recommendations: go / no-go / what to validate next.
Must-Have Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)
- PhD required in one of the following (or closely related fields):
- Materials Science, Battery Science, Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Energy Systems, Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, or adjacent energy/manufacturing disciplines.
- Proven ability to conduct rigorous scientific research and synthesis (hypothesis-driven thinking, experimental literacy, critical review of literature/data).
- Strong ability to communicate complex science clearly in English (written + verbal), including to non-technical audiences.
- High standards of scientific integrity and strong judgment under uncertainty.
Preferred Qualifications (Strong Advantages)
- Graduated from a top university, or substantial international research/work experience.
- Strong networks across academia and industry experts in energy/manufacturing.
- Experience producing research/thought leadership that influenced decisions (reports, strategy notes, commercialization roadmaps).
- Familiarity with scale-up realities: pilot-to-production, QA/QC, yield, supply chain, reliability testing, safety and compliance.
- Exposure to startups, venture capital, tech transfer, or commercialization.
Skills & Traits We Value
- Ability to turn ambiguity into clarity: what matters, what's missing, what to validate next.
- Strong editorial sense: can make research outputs sharp, readable, and compelling.
- Structured prioritization in a fast-moving environment.
- Entrepreneurial, hands-on builder mindset.
- Collaborative and diplomatic across founders, investors, experts, and partners.
Benefits
- Salary negotiable based on candidate ability.
- Social insurance, health insurance, unemployment insurance.
- Standard holidays + annual leave per Labor Code; additional paid leave for well-being activities; hybrid workplace.
- Deep exposure to venture investing and a high-quality network of investors, founders, and experts; mentorship and leadership opportunities.
